Another location ... this is the biggest prospect that is showing up on camera. I'm guessing he's a 3 year old just barely a 10 point ... I know there are bigger deer that wander through that creek bottom. I may be losing this spot to hunt later this season - so I may be tempted! We'll see how he looks when the velvet comes off. Most of the bucks are out of velvet now, maybe about a third of them still hanging onto it. In my third location in the neighboring county I'm seeing dozens of does, but not a single shooter buck on camera. They always show up in November though.
Those are awesome looking deer guys! I hope you run into them this fall. I just got all my stands and cameras out the past couple weekends in Missouri. My farm is only 40 acres and summer pictures don’t usually give good info with buck patterns shifting. We usually see our best action during the rut, so I’ll be letting things cool off and check back in a month or so to see what the farm is holding.
Locked and loaded boys. First hunt of my season tomorrow. Feels like Christmas! Sent from my Moto Z (2) using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
I went to a spot that always has good deer activity this evening. It's a 2.5 mile walk one way back to this spot. I seen a total of 7 deer and 4 of them were in range. All does and some with fawns still. I wasn't going to shoot one of them all the way back there when I can get one in a much easier location. Not a bad 5 hour sit for N. GA public land. They were really moving after these storms moved through from the hurricane. I was hoping to see one of the 3 bucks that I am after on this piece, but they never showed up. I'm guessing they had other plans than what I had.
Got my arrows for this season built last night. Picked up a couple dozen Easton Axis 300's from Camofire at the end of last season and some 75gr brass HIT inserts. With 100gr broadheads they weigh out at 575gr. Ran 4 of them through the chronograph this afternoon and got 4 duplicate readings(!) of 236 fps. A couple of minor tweaks to my sight they are shooting well and they are deadly silent. I won't be going out on opening day as I have to fly to South Carolina to move my mom here to Texas, but I'll be out during the week. I like to take a doe to knock the rust off (and ward off the buck fever/adrenaline) as soon as possible so hopefully I'll be on the board before the first week of October is out.
Just got home from a brutal haul out of the woods. I got a call as I was packing my stuff up from the evening hunt from my buddy. He shot a GIANT black bear for N. Georgia. I got there to help track and when I found it, I couldn't believe my eyes. At least 400lbs and on a piece of heavily pressured, public land. It was definitely a night to remember, and I can only imagine how he feels. It's more than likely a record for the area he was hunting as well. Can't wait to see this big guy after he gets him mounted. He said he is going with a full body upright.
I would recommend adding a footer to those arrows. Those HIT inserts are notorious for breaking if bone is encountered. I'm sure it's magnified if you add more weight to them. Then again, you may not have any problems out of them. I would myself, just to have confidence that it would help.
Looking into it. Hadn't heard of that before. Kind of makes sense though. Sent from my SM-G892A using Tapatalk
Less than two weeks til opener for me. I am ready. I think.....lol Got a few decent bucks showing up on cameras now and then but nothing to get too excited about just yet. I hunt in two different “one buck” counties so I have two buck tags so long as only 1 killed in a particular county. I will hunt more with my camera than bow early season but will definitely have bow at hand. Never know when something new changes travel route or home territory just a bit. I don’t usually shoot doe until late season but nothing is off the table if the mood strikes me, shot opportunity presents itself, and I have time to process at that particular time as I process my own. It’s a pain in the ass, but I process it exactly how I want it and also know how it has been handled and that I didn’t get some meat from another person’s deer that may have mishandled.
Got my first sit of the season in on a special regs area yesterday morn. Saw 6 doe. Passed on one due to the fawns being extremely small with spots. Will be back in a tree on Friday morn. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
