Team 8 - In Early, Out L8 - Returning Champions

Hey guys. I had a pretty great hunting weekend on 11/11 and 11/12. Saw 10 different bucks. Passed on a 2.5 110" 8 pt and had the half racked buck my father in law saw the weekend prior. Super pumped about a buck I had an encounter with on Sunday am. He was trailing a doe and she was not having it. She was hiding from him in a green briar patch and he stood there 30 yds away guarding her. I had no shot but was sure she was going to come past me and bring him. That is until the 7 pt decided to sniff her out and big boy lost his mind. He (main frame 8 scoring approx 150") ran the poor 7 pt damn near up a tree. The doe ran off and he followed quickly behind her. Good news is he's been in the woods since Sept. I confirmed that with trail camera pics I pulled over the weekend. Going back this weekend with the hopes of him giving me a shot. I know the picture dates say November but the user messed up while setting the camera. The month is actually September.

That's a wrap for my early bow season. Hunted yesterday morning for 3 hours saw 5 small bucks chasing a small doe. None that I wanted to shot at. I had to leave so I could go visit my brother at the hospital. He had the tumor removed from his kidney. Got home late and decided to shoot the 308 to make sure it was on for Saturday morning opener. It's golden. Rain all day here. I don't like shooting deer in the rain. To many lost deer over the years cause of it. So I'm resting today.

Tomorrow I'll be hunting off the ground in what I call roving mode. Woods will be quiet from the rain to walk in. I'll start by hunting the thickets along the river. Ill move from the down wind side of each one I come to and sit 30 to 45 minutes to watch.

I'm out with the broomstick. Seen several but nothing I want to put my only buck tag. Sil killed a nice one out of my favorite stand. Haven't seen it yet but thinks it's a big 12pt..

 

Well the sil killed t he 10 point that was hanging out by my favorite stand and I'm so happy for him. Biggest one he's ever shot.

I found a spot this morning that has big bucks written all over it. My walk about is about to pay dividends.

Hunted all day Friday in unseasonablywarm temps. Saw 5 does in the am and 3 in the evening.
Saturday was a bust. Traveled 65 miles to my lease on the shore only to have a small buck chase a doe around me before shooting light. That was it all day. Oh I did have two raccoons walk by at last light.
Sunday morning has been very quiet this far. Seen a fox so far.
Woods are torn up with rubs. Very odd. Besides last weekend things have been off. Keep grinding.

 

My Niece and Nephews had a successful Ohio youth gun season last evening. My niece shot a 7 point and a doe. My nephews shot an 8 and 10 point.

 

That right there is what it's all about Dmax. We need more kids in the woods and off the street!

 

I'll be out this afternoon riding my broom. Haha. @LittleChief - Got a spot on a corn field fence row I've been saving for a east wind. Most likely be a long shot, but the opportunity for a really big buck is very possible.
