It's just getting started for me. I'll be out soon. Rain day today. So it will be sports from the recliner and a pot of venison veggie soup and cornbread

I'm working most of this weekend.

Now here was the shock of the year yesterday. Checking camera pics.

That's one hell of a bull... In Iowa....
Needless to say my buddies were all blown away. I called the DNR and asked if I could hunt hunt him, he said he'd ask

I just finished scoring my dad’s buck. It scored 165-2/8 inches. That’s the biggest buck he’s ever gotten in his lifetime. Prior to this one he had a 151 inch about 8 - 10 years ago.

Sorry. Between teams 5 and 15 there weren't any left to go around, but I'm sure your turn is coming. :tu:

Gonna try and get out tomorrow. Woke up with a stiff neck yesterday and battled it all day.

Have no idea what i did, but at my age it doesnt take much anymore to stove me up.

Right now i have to turn my torso to look left. Getting old sucks... The mind says hunt-- the body says--- I dare ya!

Got to pick and choose my days the next two weeks and not mess up my good stands!

Corn still out, and with this weather it may not get out till gun season gets in.

I had a good 10 point daylight on the same trail on Thursday at noon and 5 pm. I sat in the vicinity with good wind on Friday and he chased two fawns to within 10 yards of my stand. He slowly worked his way back down the trail and made it to within 10 yards again but it was too thick and too dark to shoot. I let him move on and he started chasing again. He stopped and let out a buck roar which is always cool to hear. I set up a decoy last night and was starting to pack up when the woods exploded again. The doe must have gave him the slip and maybe the decoy caught his eye because he stayed there for 45 minutes. Never did see what he was. When I started climbing down he took off but it was pitch dark so I don't think he really knew what the hell was going on.

The neighbors have 5 guys hunting this morning. Good guys and I'd be happy for them but you know the feeling. Bitter sweet!

In my area, I feel like the big boys haven't strayed too far from their core area yet. Hopefully the best is yet to come.

My BIL went out to Ohio last Friday and was planning on staying until next Monday. He just called me a few minutes ago to tell me that he just shot the biggest buck of his lifetime. We just started getting pictures of this buck last Friday at another spot at the bottom of the property. He shot him on the top of the ridge at last light. He has a stand about 30 feet up, so you can see the entry in high lung.

    Got no excuses now.
I'll be out doing a recon on the picked field Friday morning from a fence row ground blind. Will be my first sit in since I put it in back in Sepember. Hopefully I'll see something worth going after or maybe shoot a slick head.

Sorry for the long outage. Been out of state working.
Update on the spike I hit, found blood, never found the deer. Pulled a camera card two days ago and he’s back on it. Looks like I might have one lunged or even just barely missed a lung. He’s still kicking.
Cold front coming through right now. Went out this afternoon and laid a doe down to rest. Tomorrow morning will be first frost. Hoping to get up in time to watch the sun come up. Hopefully that 8 pnter I’ve seen on camera will be nosing around. I had to get the pics myself. Hopefully they’re good enough. [IMG]

Gonna finally be able to get back out Friday and Saturday. Ended up developing pneumonia, so took me down for the last week or so. But I'm doing better and ready to get out there!
