Been in the 90s here with no rain. I would like to get a couple brassica plots in, but it's been so dry.

Pulled some cards to make sure everything was set up before I leave for Colorado. Should be an interesting season. Literally more wolves than deer on camera. You'd think they would eventually move on. Five in one pic. Mostly day light photos and pretty constant. My kids like to go to the creek to do some exploring. I had to tell them no for the first time the other day.

    That sucks man.

Posted this in land projects, but this was my accomplishment today.

Well, put in some plots a bit late but finally have rain in the forecast for the first time in a month. Did a rape/radish/brassica mix and then a winter wheat/grain rye/oat mix.

Normally like to get them in in mid August, but in this drought didn't seem like a point until rain. Good news is the burn down I did with 24D worked, just left grass and took out all the heavy weeds. Sprayed down with gly today and seeded, hopefully we get the rain Friday they are talking about. Best I could do. Also spread chuffa, never planted it before hoping it'll be established in spring.

Tried to get cameras reset, but one of them took a mower from my farmer buddy. RIP camera. Saw some good sign, freshed up a couple scrapes.

My giant myscanthus looks great this year, now that I actually sprayed pre-emergence. Hell of a screened path in, just have a few spots I need to replant. Beans looked ok...

Freaking love this new Pioneer. Great workhorse. [IMG][IMG][IMG]

It's been so dry in central Wisconsin I'm actually starting to think of hunting a watering hole! I'll be out west for 12 days. I hate missing the Wisco whitetail opener but it's worth it if I get up close to a bugling bull. Make no mistake, a cow will taste steel if the opportunity presents itself.

Our season opened up Saturday. Put some corn out and got some pics on it, all doe. But they were out there from 0300-0800. So I went and cut a small path through some tall grass and decided to wait until first light to sneak in. Hoping to crawl through the path to a little cubby hole I had cut to sit in.
Get out there, nothing is on the corn. So I settle in. About 30 minutes later I see two fawns come out of the woodline, exactly where I expected them to come out. I see momma hanging back watching… using them for bait probably.
I wait and I hear something big from behind me getting closer and closer. I, sitting on the ground, finally realize I might get kicked by a deer that’s trying to figure out what I am. I turned slowly and had a spiked buck 15 feet from me, staring at me down the little path I had cut. He sees me see him, blows, the woods erupt with running deer. This little dude stared at me for a few minutes and kept trying to get me to turn around. He finally spooked me, then I spooled him.
Sunday I drove out of state for a three week work trip. Good luck boys!

I threw out some throw and grow type stuff for the first time this year. Hopefully it grows enough when I get home from this work trip i’ll have a spot working.

Got out this morning and broke open trails on my river bottom lease. Several downed trees had to be cut and on one I hurt my shoulder. Felt something pop an then the pain. Felt like a muscle tear. That put the stopper on progress. I did get two cameras up over a couple scrapes.
    Beautiful 50 degree morning!

Well we sure aren"t chatty Kathy's like those big toe fellas are we. Not sure most of us have the time to chat as busy as life can get. On the other hand we have plenty of score card hero's!

Headed out this morning with SIL to hang a new ladder stand in a funnel between two ag fields. I have prepped three spots for ground blinds with weed killer and will be going in next week to put up ground blinds.

I'm in the process of making a shooting stick tripod for my xbow out of an old vhsc camera tripod I had laying around from the 80's.

All my gear has been gone through and I'm just waiting for it to get started.
