Well, the fishing trip was slow. But this was the 50th fish. I told my brother in law all week it would only take one fish to turn it around. Topped my PB. 41” Northern on a spook.

It’s opening weekend and the morning was slow. Heard some sneezing and other various doe sounds but never saw anything. My so and I have switched stands for the afternoon.

Drove up the the property today, this time of year I seem to make an excuse to drive the two hour one way trip most weekends. I needed to pull a couple cards that are low impact right on the mower paths and in an alfalfa plot where my gun tower for the year is set up. I sighted in my 400 legend with a new scope and it’s ready for gun season. It’s been real dry and I wanted to make sure I got my water whole filled up hoping we get enough rain to keep it full for the season (probably not) lol I think I got my 80 year old grandfather talked into going after that non typical early I really hope he gets him he has never got a deer over 140 he deserves it.

That one velvet deer might be a antlered doe it sure don’t look like a yearling to me, the state of Illinois told the landowner he couldn’t have a couple of his food plots last year in his crp program so we took them out and now this year they changed thier mind so I had to mow them today and I got buried on pollen. Way to go Illinois another win, I do love this life though.

I am of the opinion that 10 is three and I think with the other deer on the farm this year he gets a pass from me. But most guys in the area will shoot him

Posted on scorecard but details here. Doe and fawn came through, fawn ran off towards my son and I figured the doe would follow. I looked to my left (East) and there she was feeding. She ended up getting the bad end of an arrow at 20yds.

Congratulations, Beave! Way to get us started. My son and I did a little lane clearing and checked cameras. We are starting to get more buck pictures. No giants yet, but this buck has my interest. I'm pretty sure he's 4.5 with a very cool rack. Not a high scorer, but I don't think he'll walk if he gives me a good shot. STC_0015.jpg

He looks like he slept like a bat, hanging upside down the whole velvet season. Cool buck!
