Looking like Halloween will be my next go at with everything this week. Have basketball games Tuesday and Wednesday and then parent teacher conferences Thursday night. Figured for it a rest tomorrow night too.

It happens. I have no idea how many times I've done the same thing in 40+ years bowhunting.

I’ve had a rough go bow hunting the last couple years just not seeing deer. This was the first deer I’ve even drawn my bow on in 2 or 3 years since my last buck. I was shaking like a leaf even though I’ve shot way bigger!

Guess I should’ve been hunting at work over the weekend. Just imagine, a buck on its death run through the IU campus, running students over, and spraying blood everywhere. I’d be a legend without a job! Lol

Quick hunt to one of my local places. Hunted from the ground and did a little scouting. No sign of deer and the oaks I found last year are bare. Gonna drop a trail cam off at a neighbors property later today and take inventory. Odds of shooting even a doe around here are slim.

Planning to driving to in-laws in Northern Ohio for an all day sit Saturday.

My older son shot this buck over the weekend and hit him back. We let him go overnight and had a dog tracker come the next morning to help out. Turns out we didn't need her as the deer didn't go more than 150 yards, and we had decent blood the whole way. But it was fun to watch the dog work, and a little extra insurance isn't a bad thing! Turned out to be liver/gut hit.

Basketball game tonight so no hunting for me. I'm going to try and get out tomorrow, skip Weds, then go all day Thursday and Friday morning. I've had a lot of big ones on camera during the day lately so it's go time. I told Joey he's done hunting for awhile now that he shot one, so he's interested in tagging along and filming for me a bit. It could be a complete disaster, or it could be a blast. We'll see! Going to get him a little experience in a saddle and see how he does.

I’m very much thinking about taking Friday off (my least favorite day as an elementary teacher) and sitting in a tree dark to dark or damn near close to it an all day sit

I'm taking Thursday off to do that exact thing. I always like the first day after a wind direction switch and we're going from 5 days of East winds to NW on Thursday. Seems like a great time to park my butt in a tree and enjoy nature!

I'll hunt Halloween morning and then go trick-or-treating with the kids in the afternoon. My youngest is 11 and 9, so I've only got a couple more years of this before I'm kicked to the curb in favor of their friends.

If it weren’t for PT conferences Thursday I’d be hunting Thursday instead

Planning to hunt this weekend in northern Ohio. But yesterday I threw out some corn and a cell cam on a neighboring property. Just planned to take inventory and see what deer were left. In 12 hours I’ve had 6 different bucks on cam. One decent one last night but plenty small ones this morning. Taking my daughter tonight whose goal was to shoot her first buck this year. Didn’t think there would be enough left to get her one here but with that number, I’m okay with her popping one before it gets super cold.

If you've got some food don't discount late season in a blind with the buddy heater running. That's become one of my favorite things to do with the kids.

I hunted from the ground tonight, had two does at 10 yards. The back one (smaller) caught me drawing, then came back. Turns out, it was a button buck. But, it’s some meat in my empty freezer. I’ll save my other antlerless tag for gun season probably. I’ll get it on the score card later tonight. Gotta get it out of the woods and hung.

Meat is meat and dead is dead! Congrats!

No deer for me tonight but I took out a couple fawn killers so I'll count it as a success.

Well we went to the stand for a buck but none came out during daylight. At last light a doe came in and my 9 year old decided she was willing to shoot her. I wasn’t going to tell her no. She came within 15 but was on edge big time. Wind was a little swirly and I think she caught it. She turned away and there was no shot.

Asked my daughter in the way out “I thought your goal this season was a buck”.

She responds “well yes daddy that is my goal but it’s so dang hard to pass on a doe! All I could think was I want to shoot this deer so bad and she’ll taste better than a buck anyways.” Lol.
