So far no action in the public land my brother set me up on. Trail cam didn’t have any action on the scrapes. But honestly, I’m just happy to be up in a tree ago. A year ago tomorrow was my last hunt in the saddle and almost my last hunt entirely. Left the woods and on my way back home I got hit by the coal truck. So I’m just blessed to be here again. Beautiful chilly morning.

Good thing Vortex has an unlimited lifetime warranty! Send those suckers in and they'll get you a new pair in no time.

I did not hunt at all this weekend. Sat morning it was pouring rain so I waited that out and then scouted/moved trail cams for a few hours in the middle of the day. My daughter had a cheer competition on Sat afternoon and both my boys had football games yesterday.

Thankfully it's much cooler now that this front moved through and we had some patchy frost this morning. Hoping to sneak out tomorrow morning and Weds afternoon, and probably Friday afternoon as well. Late October is one of my favorite times to hunt so I'm about to start hitting at as much as possible. Thankfully my football coaching duties end this weekend so starting next week, it's game on.

Commence the worst work week of the year, and the longest four days of the year. Just get to Friday and it’s 23 days off from there just to chase big bucks. I can make it.

I'm right there with you! Six days to work this week and five days next week to go for me. It is even worse because I'm not receiving a paycheck due to the government shutdown.

Yes, I will get back pay. I am an USDA consumer safety inspector. I am an "expected" employee, which means I am expected to be at work.

It is tough for sure. I have been with USDA for 34 years. This is not my first rodeo when it comes to government shutdowns. They have been known to cancel vacations in the past. That is one of the reasons I stopped taking vacation the first week of October. One year, my supervisor called me in the tree stand to cancel my vacation.

At least you get back pay that makes it better, but I would be fired if my boss called and said they changed their mind on my vacation because I would laugh at them. Much better employee than me lol

Wind was too much for me yesterday (gusts to 30mph), but they are reasonable today, so I'll do an evening hunt. Have not seen a deer yet, so it can only get better.

Thinking I’m heading in after school today. Gonna sit in the woods today. Cold and 25-30mph winds feels kinda Bucky.

I'll have to give that a try! I've yet to see a deer in my first 9 evening sits. Got a couple good bucks on cam, but they're at night still.

I snuck out for my first morning hunt of the season today. Ended up seeing a doe and two fawns, but it beats being skunked. I only hunted for maybe an hour, I was out more to take some photos & videos for a customer's new product launch than to actually go hunting. But it sure felt good! Low 40's and 8-10 mph winds was nice.

Not sure what's going on out at my lease, but I had four different shooter bucks on camera this morning between 2 am and 6 am. They are hammering scrapes right now for sure.

Also, we finally picked up our 10-year-old buck on my local farm after not seeing him all summer. It's amazing this fat boy has survived this long. I've had so many sightings and close calls with him over the years, but I can never seal the deal. My buddy shot him two years ago, but hit him high and obviously didn't kill him. He's a 300-lb forkhorn now and definitely catches an arrow if he gets too close.
