Here is the current battle between ODWC and Native American Tribes in Oklahoma
The leaders of the tribes contend that tribal members are not required to purchase hunting or fishing licenses as long as members hunt/fish within the tribal boundaries.

BIG CHANGE FOR TRIBAL HUNTERS/ANGLERS: The Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation sent an announcement today saying state hunting and fishing laws apply to everyone in Oklahoma, unless you’re on tribal land (land owned by a tribe and held in trust by the U.S. government).

The state says that means tribal citizens must have state hunting/fishing licenses when hunting/fishing anywhere else in the state, including private land.

When not on tribal land, all ODWC regulations also apply, including checking in all game harvests through the state’s online system.

To reiterate, ODWC says the only place tribal game laws apply is land owned by the tribe and held in trust by the United States.

ODWC says this comes after two recent court decisions reaffirmed the state retains authority to enforce wildlife laws across Oklahoma. The Wildlife Department says a U.S. Supreme Court case (Stitt vs. City of Tulsa) and an Oklahoma Supreme Court case (Stroble vs. Oklahoma Tax Commission) have “provided clear legal confirmation that McGirt is limited to prosecuting crimes under the federal Major Crimes Act only.”

ODWC says the goal is fairness, consistency, and protecting our wildlife resources for everyone who enjoys the outdoors. And reminds that every license dollar helps fund conservation and management programs that keep the Oklahoma thriving.

The Cherokee Nation says it is working to get us a statement. As soon as I have that I will share here.

I’m going to have to either head in later right after first light or start riding the quad back. I want even out of the yard and bumped one across the holler. Took a few more steps, bumped one in the holler, took a few more steps and bumped one right at the bottom of the hill. I have this problem every year

Hunted my lease last night and we saw 2 does and 2 bucks. No shooters and the does didn't cooperate, so no arrows were released.

I'll most likely be taking my boys hunting tomorrow afternoon and Saturday afternoon, which means my next hunt is likely sometime next week. Unless I get a wild hair and decide to go out on Sunday morning.

Thought I was going to be in the money tonight until I got surrounded by coyotes right at last light. They were 10 or 15 yards behind me. I thought they’d moved on so I climbed down and got to my last stick and the alpha sounded off on the ridge beside me. They sounded off and they did not in fact move on. Hit the flash light and saw eyes, yelled, and beat a tree with my climbing stick. Carried one of my sticks out instead of on my pack for coyote beating purposes lol.

I've always felt like I could take a single coyote with my bare hands if I had to. But a whole pack and I'm cooked.

Looks like a nice evening to hunt - it's going to be in the low 60's and a nice 10-12 mph SW wind. I'm taking my youngest son for his first deer hunt so hopefully we see some movement.

Same lol used to be a reoccurring dream of mine, sometimes they were yotes, sometimes they were wolves. Sometimes they had necks like rubber bands. I’d wind their head up trying to break their neck and would just twist around and around.

I'm stuck at work today until a little after midnight. My alarm is set for 4:30am. I'll be hunting in the morning. Cameras have been void of shooter bucks, although I definitely have the does located. We have taken several decent bucks off a little 20 patch in Arkansas, but they don't usually show up until the last week in October. The top right buck field dressed 178 pounds. 20251009_122753.jpg

Youngest just got her first deer! Passed on a spike and two fawns and then this young doe came in perfect. Double lung and crashed within 50 yards. Got it all on video and 2 insta 360s. Awesome night!

I took my youngest out for his first official deer hunt on Friday night. We had a lone done with no fawns come into the clover and feed at 30 yards, but he said he didn't want to shoot her. I almost grabbed the bow and did it myself.

About 15 minutes before the end of legal light she picked her head up and stared down at the opposite end of the field. A few seconds later a small buck appeared. He walked right in front of the blind and stopped to feed. My son took the shot, which looked good to me through the viewfinder of the camera. The buck ran 20 yards and stopped, then bounded off to about 50 yards. He was fast-twitching his tail and rolling his head around, and I thought he was going to go down right there. Then he trotted out of sight so we decided to back out and give him some time. We came back 3 hours later and ended up walking up on him in his bed, still alive, right where we last saw him. He jumped up and took off so we backed out and came back in the morning. We had blood for about 200 yards and that was it. Spent 4 hours grid searching and came up empty. Then we got a dog tracker out later in the afternoon. The dog picked up the trail right away but eventually lost it and that was all she wrote. I have a hard time believing this deer isn't dead somewhere close by, but we'll never know for sure what was hit. My guess is low liver. There was no bubbles or lung blood of any kind, and no guts or stomach matter or funky smell either. Definitely not the way we wanted to start the season!

The arrow is coming from the right and exited just behind his elbow on the opposite side.

I didn’t make it out this weekend. We bought a used 10x12 shed and it got delivered on Friday., so I spent Friday night and all day Saturday moving stuff and cleaning the garage. I feel reborn every time I walk into the garage now! And how about those Hoosiers! May head out this evening if time allows.

That's a beautiful place you have, especially having a lake right there.

Thank you. We’ve worked hard for it. The pond needs quite a few short bass caught out of it and some structure added. I have a fake Christmas tree to sink and going to make some of those pex/concrete bush things.
