Some unreal hunting out in JoDaviess. Didn’t you shoot a good one on some public over there a few years ago?

Sure did! Too bad the sharpshooters have really thinned out the deer on the public up there. I used to drive around during Spring turkey season with my boys and we'd see 100 deer in an evening out feeding. Now we're lucky to get into double digits.

Freaking 90 degrees this weekend. I’m still hoping to go out one afternoon though can’t help myself I’ll try to figure something out. I need to figure out how to build a walk in cooler.

I'm a Southern boy, but I'm very familiar with that area of Illinois. My grandparents lived in Mt. Prospect and my aunt and uncle were in Arlington Heights. I visited almost every summer. After graduating in 1987, I spent all summer in the area. I worked in Schaumburg at the Snuggery and performed in wild west shows at seven acres antique village in Union.

Haven't even seen a deer my first four sits (12 hours), but I experienced this same issue last season. It'll pick up at some point. I did see an owl yesterday evening, which was pretty cool. I hear them pretty often, but actually seeing them is pretty rare in my woods. Bring on the pre-rut!! :tu:

Been experiencing that here in ogle and I don’t hunt public. My numbers have been way down the last several years. DNR was putting lots of pressure on our forest preserve to thin the deer numbers out or they’ll come sharp shoot too.

The Snuggery in the 80's must have been an amazing experience! What a time to be alive!

And our office isn't far from the old Wild West town in Union. Back in the late 80's through early 2000's that area of McHenry County was littered with huge bucks. Multiple 200" deer were killed in and around Huntley before everything got built up with homes, fast food restaurants and a seemingly endless supply of mattress stores. We still have some good deer around, but it's nothing compared to what it was 30 years ago.

They should treat geese like coyotes - no closed season, kill as many as you can, whenever you want. And it should be legal to take out half a flock when they're blocking the road for 5 minutes and don't know where to go.

All I saw was a bobcat. But… My hunting pants fit a little better despite all the beer I drank this past year, my platform came in at 2:30, so I got to test that out instead of the ring of steps that hurt my feet, and broad heads are hitting the same as field points at 50. Set up and tear down was quiet and smooth. I didn’t forget my release or my backup release, so a productive hunt I reckon. I’ll be back out one day this weekend.

I snuck in a quick hunt last night and didn't see anything until I was tearing down and about to head out. 1 minute after legal light ended I had a deer come right down the trail I was watching, passing by at 25 yards in the wide open. Thankfully it was only a small buck. I think I would have been mad if it was a big one.

Temps in the mid-upper 80's today through Sunday so I'm not sure I'll hunt again until things cool off next week.

They picked the beans out at my farm this week so I’ll do my better late than never tree trimming this weekend and give her a week to settle down or so before I go in for my fist hunt.

First hunt tomorrow night. Taking my 7 and 9 year old daughters out. 7 year olds first time as the shooter. Buddy north of us got a blind and spot picked out. Had a doe in there tonight. Hoping for a fun evening with the kids.
