He's crazy looking, but I'd introduce him to the business end of an arrow.

I have two good bucks showing up in daylight, finally. Also, how do I change my avatar to the team logo?

Nice! To change your avatar, save the pic of the avatar that was posted near the beginning of the thread. Click on your picture at the top right of the page, on the left hand side of the menu, it says avatar, click on that, then load the saved logo photo in

After looking at pictures from last season, I'm 99.99% positive this is the same buck. Resized_STC_0008_438450342206387_1734915295712.jpg STC_0015.jpg

Hanging stands this weekend, it’s dry and hot all food plots have been disc and ready for seed I'm just waiting for a chance of rain. Wife retired last week and we just sold our house and will be moving in the next week or so which is going to be difficult for the opening week of season. But I’m ready to sling an arrow at the first doe in range.

Finally have a decent buck on camera. The soybeans on my road are just starting to turn yellow, while down in the bottoms, they’ve about got them all out. This may setup well early in October if the oaks aren’t producing.

Went and drove around the loop to check on the surrounding crops. They’re getting all the beans out of the bottoms now, corn still has a while to go, but there’s no corn that’s really up against the woods. It’s kind of just out in the open sea of ag. The beans on the adjacent road were put in late and they’re still green. I’d say early October they’ll be starting to yellow and I’ll have the only pods ready to eat.

I don’t remember crops coming out this early and it’s usually the trigger for bigger bucks moving up out of the bottoms and on cam. If it were going to be a productive early season, I feel like this would be the year….for the first time ever. I’m not counting my chickens yet, but definitely will be paying attention to early season.

October 1st is officially on the 10-day weather outlook. It's about to get real! Too bad it's supposed to be 80 degrees on opening day. :dan:

Hey fellas, on our way back from our montana elk hunt. Had an amazing time and got on a ton of elk. Drew back 3 times and missed a nice 5x5. Unfortunately didn’t seal the deal but it was an incredible hunt. My brother, who was on his first elk hunt, was able to take a nice 4x4 so we aren’t going home empty handed.

I’m not sure if I’ll get out 10/1, and if I do, it’ll be an evening sit. It looks dumb, but I may set up here about 30 yards from my mom’s yard. There’s a pretty good doe trail where they are crossing the road. It would be quick to get in a tree after work and really low impact.

Honestly caught me off guard. We’d called in a whole herd and in my mind I was ready for a call in situation. We are headed to the truck and we think we hear raking. I step into a gap and this joker just pops up in front of me. I tried to range him and my rangefinder was foggy from rain so I had to wipe it. And right before he stepped up I ranged a pine over the hill. He steps out and I felt like the yardage it said was too short. Held a little higher and still shot under him. In the moment I ranged the tree in front that was 30 yards. I held 35-40. He was actually at 47.

I had time. I should’ve ranged him when he stepped out. They don’t spoke like whitetails. But in that moment I definitely panicked and couldnt believe it was happening. Im sure I’ll replay that moment over and over in my head for a long time. But im grateful for the encounter and one of these years I’ll get one…but this year it was my brother’s turn. He sat high on a mountain one night and watched a ton of elk hang out down by a wallow. Even saw a big 6x6 breed a cow. Next afternoon he slid to the wallow and got two great shots on a 4x4 who came in screaming. Got it all on video too!

Sounds like a blast!! Throw up a link to the video if and when you get it online. I love watching "real" hunting videos.

I'm going to do an evening hunt tonight to start my season off. I'll update what I see or not, later.
