At 68, I still have folks tell me I look 55, so I can't be captain.

I’ll do it if everybody is good with it. I’m normally hunting until the last day of Indiana archery anyway.

I’m Joel from NE WI. Hunt private land only. Really looking to do some herd management this year and of course a decent buck. I hunt with my son so he can be on doe patrol

Hey hey the gangs all here.

I’m grateful I have some in laws in northern Ohio where I can hunt. This is the current EHD map for Ohio. I live and hunt in Washington County…down in the dark purple.

    I let @LittleChief know we’re locked in.

@SheddingLightTravis dude, that’s rough. My brother in law and I hunted Wayne National Forest in December about eight years ago. Didn’t kill but it was a fun trip seeing different country.

Arkansas has an early buck hunt on September 6-8. I haven't found any shooters just yet, but I haven't set foot on the property behind my house. There is usually at least one nice buck passing through. I may hunt the 7th if it's not too hot. My Oklahoma cameras are starting to look promising, no 150" bucks yet.[IMG] Screenshot 2025-08-24 at 3.22.56 PM.jpg Screenshot 2025-08-24 at 10.37.05 PM.jpg

I grew up near Wayne National. Kind of a weird oddity with how chunked out and spread out it is.

Yea we shall see what’s left when it’s all said and done. We had a lot of deer in this area and I’ve been blessed to have great opportunities. But first I’ll focus on my montana elk trip and see if I can fill the freezer that way!

Oh come on, tell the truth. They actually say that you don't act your age.

    Love the team name folks!

I had a rocky start to preseason practice about a month ago. I have been shooting an index finger release for years. I could not seem to get my arrows to group well. Target panic had set in! Instead of fighting it, I went out and bought a Tru-ball stalkr thumb release. Best decision I've made in years! I'm probably shooting better than ever.

Joel Turner said it best—a thumb release is our mechanical solution to a mental problem (target panic). They are great at first, but once you get comfortable shooting them, you can and will develop target panic again if you don't address the root causes. Trust me—I know from experience!

On a side note, velvet should be peeling off any day now. I'm already seeing some smaller bucks hard-horned, but the bigger ones are still fuzzy for now.

I feel way behind on the chat here! Love that this group seems like it’ll be a talkative bunch. I used to be way more active on here and will definitely try to be more this year.

Update on where I’m at with deer season: simple answer is behind. Work and golfing got in my way this year lol. I plan on hopefully getting out to trim shooting lanes this weekend or next week and to move a stand or two. I hunt a 120 acre property with two finger draws on it and a 10 acre chunk of hard woods that is THICK. Not a property that holds a ton of deer but the 500 acres across the road from me sure does. I’m picky about when I go in there to increase my odds but it’s a tricky farm to hunt with the access I have.

Currently on a 2 year streak of not shooting a buck, I’m a baseball guy and fully believe in someone being DUE.

I'm looking forward to everyone's input. Conversing with folks is much of the fun of the contest. I've been on some not so talkative teams in the past. I love hearing the experiences of the other teammates as the season unfolds. Team 7 rocks! :chewy:
