Yeah Tony, Thats some funny stuff :D Im going to penetrate his boundries again in the morning I think ill hunt till noon this time to see if there moving mid day if nothing happens early. Im still trying to decide if one just a tag under 120" comes in if ill shoot it :D We will see!!
True dat!! :D Well it was an interesting morning. It started like a broken record. My wind was good, but just as it was getting light enough to shoot I again here something milling around just out of sight and just above where the scrapes are at in the low spot, and bam my wind shifts and again one blowes at me twice same place now my wind is good for the rest of the hunt Later a BB fed under me munching on acorns and left. Minutes later he brings Momma back with him and they eat more acorns for about 20 minutes and leave. 30 minutes later I start hearing bleating a bunch, and in comes a fawn Doe looking for Momma and bleating her head off. I here noise behind me and see a Rob buck :D one 15" spike and one 4" spike. He had heard the bleats and comes in and chases the fawnall over while grunting :D Im going to try tomorrow again if its not raining to hard. couldnt hunt this evening had to watch my youngin.
This Saturday looks terrible as far as weather goes. Rain and windy My spot is to far to make it there after work since I lost my close spot But I am still going to keep my hopes up. Sunday looks like a decent weather day. This year I WILL connect. Edit: Saturday afternoon now looks ok to.
I almost made it happen tonight guys. It was windy as hell but it started to die down about 5:30. About 5:50 I see a buck I have on cam coming in to my right. He never offered a shot I felt good about over there. I was hoping he would continue on the trail right in front of my stand but for some reason he stayed to the right and went into some thick stuff. He is a 10 point (maybe 11 because I think he has a split brow). He has short tines so he wouldnt score high, but being my first I was going to take the shot.
I'm having a terrible case of the jitters. Missed a doe last night and misjudged the distance, then brisket shot a small spike. I just can't get the yips out of the system, had a chance at a decent 8-pointer but didn't want to mess him up given my track record so I passed. Sorry guys. Won't be getting much hunting in until Thanksgiving, I hope you all do better than me!
OHb, dam man that was a close one hang in there bud!! Dr Andy, man those jitters are hard to get rid of once you have them, it took me some time before I got that under control. keep chin up and persavere I had a decent evening, a fork horn, 7 hens, and 4 Does. 20 minutes later all hell broke loose. I heard some major chasing but they stayed on the other side of the hill and I could see none of it I opted to go waterfouling with my two sons this morning. My 10 year old got his first two kills of anything, two ducks wouldnt miss that for the world The kids are going back to school tomorrow so its an all out assult for me again the rest of the week. My brother inlaw cant get out this year and wants a Doe for his freezer. good chance ill pop one tomorrow for him but will hunt till noon looking for horn. good luck everyone!!
Good luck crick! Hang in there Andy Well the hotel room is booked and I am ready for the trip to KY next weekend.
Gl Joe Andy man sorry to hear about I say this little break until thanksgiving might help you. I am finally getting back out since I couldnt hunt sat or sun but with this full moon stuff who knows what will happen.
Good luck in KY, Peak where at in KY? Just got in from this mornng, Rattled in to different 4 pointers The first came all brissled up, made a scrape, looked around and left :D The second just strolled through. I seen no Does at all this morning I was going to shoot one for my brother inlaw. Im getting ready to go out and do some careful scouting for this evening.
Ok correction, the lease is in Bracken County but the hotel is in Mason county. We are more on the North East side, East of Cincinnati.
Shooting in my hotel room! 8yds just working on form and found a range nearby. Shooting well as long as the target isn't alive! Hope to get out Sun eve and Mon for sure, then it's spotty until Thanksgiving! Thanks for your support and kind words!
I could have put the smack down on a 125-130" ten this mornin'.. I was soooooo tempted but I know there is bigger boys in them woods... I rattled a bit then ten minutes later I heard him making his way through about 80-100yds behind me. I hit the grunt call twice and two minutes later, he popped out 20yds right next to me. I could have put it on him, but I just couldnt help but think about the big one I have seen over there so I let him walk.. That was after I toyed with him a bit with the grunt call:] Good luck team, its that time of year!!!!!!!
Guys, I was out last weekend and the younger bucks were out cruzin for doe's. I did not see any big boys on the prowl. I passed on a 125 in 4x4 that looked to be 2 1/2. Had him at 1 yard from the tree I was in. LOL I will be hunting at the Bone Yard from the 5th to the18th. The goal is to fill all 4 deer tags in the next two weeks. I will try to keep the team up today. May the Deer Gods send you a big buck and give you the skill to shoot straight !!
The wife tried to fill her second buck tag last night and failled.... She shot right under a nice 8 pointer. She said his head was down and he was on the move searching.. She drew back, grunted, and shot right under him!!!!! The rut is on here in maryland!!!! WOOOHOOO..........
Its only approiate I post him here in our team thread Getting ready to score him now EDIT...with only one brow. 153 4/8
