Sorry guys I still haven't any good news to report. I was out friday and only saw one deer about 80yds away. It got down wind of me and dissapeared. Just not seeing the deer this year, im a little concerned but still confident. I got a nice 8point on my trail cam a few different times now although I probably wont get to hunt that area for awhile as its located in a creek bottom and we are getting hammered with hurricane sandy. Hopefully this storm doesnt mess up my plans for this week. I was going to head out thurs. and fri. Work and weather may change things tho. Keep at it boys I'll be giving it my best.
I saw a lot of movement last night and it was mostly doe. I did have one shot opportunity but unfortunately it was a young yearling buck that I let walk. I did use him to practice with like I was going to shoot him and I also decided to have a little fun with him by grunting and snorting at him. He came back looking to see whats up and couldn't figure it out until eventually giving up. He was one confused young buck lol. Even though I didn't put anything on the ground it was a fun hunt and I got some video of the buck. First video I got started after he was by me but I got a better video when I got him to come back so Ill attach the 2nd video of him since there isn't much to show on the video if him going by me the first time.
Well, no blood drawn, but had a GREAT weekend. Saturday, I was covered in deer, and could have dropped several mature doe. But I had a big 8 bedded on the neighboring property about 70 yards from me! I had 2 huge does at 15yards, and I regret not taking one, but oh well. I was sure he would get up and follow them, but eventually, he went the other way. He wasn't interested in my calls, and never saw the decoy. I had triplet button bucks approaching my decoy, and not knowing what to make of him, hilarious! Seeing more fawns then I can remember, probably due to the mild winter, which is great to see. Sunday, I saw 2 young bucks chasing a doe all over the place. No big ones chasing yet, but it's coming any day now. The time to be out is now, guys!
I hear ya, I'm still very optimistic and I'll be pushing until the very end. Even after I put one down within the next two weeks I'll still be heading out for the late season, I love bowhunting in the snow
cant wait till this storm stops. the deer will be moving alot. We are being hit hard right now in mass
I passed a wide, clean 8 tonight that would have scored right at 130"... pretty cool, as I went in to hunt a stand my buddy had hung several weeks ago, and the wind was perfect all the way until I got to it -- but the wind was swirling in that corner of the field and heading opposite of everywhere else. I sat in it for about 10 minutes and figured it was useless, so I got down, headed to the opposite side of the inside corner I was overlooking, and hunkered down in a makeshift ground blind. Had him come out directly in front of me about 40 minutes later, oblivious to my presence feeding in the cut corn field. Had another one that would have went about 115" twelve yards behind me at one point... looks like they're starting to get on their feet a bit!
Positive thoughts guys! I predict we have 3-4 more deer on the ground by Sunday and moving on to have an awesome week next week!
I'm pumped for this weekend. Saw 3 good bucks last week and I think the activity will be 10x what it was last weekend! Can't wait to get back out there and get a big buck on the ground for our team!!
Yes! 1 more day of work..............guys I am not kidding you, I have not had a vacation in two years as of November. I am not shaving, drinking coffee like it is going out of style, hugging my kids, and KILLING!
Heading out in an hour to a buck travel zone on the public land that favors our current west wind....BRING IT. Good luck guys...like I said, stay positive for the next couple of weeks. If things go bad, get back on the saddle and go for it.
