Thanks guys! She came right to me with a goofy looking buck, a 7 pointer. I could have jumped on the bucks back. She gave me a 20 yard broadside shot, and I double lunged her. But she ended up going pretty far, and it was already dark, so we waited until morning. It was a miserable recovery, as she ended up in the thickest, nastiest stuff she could find. But it was worth it. I'll get her entered, and now looking for a shooter buck!
Very cool FEB! Nice looking doe and beautiful looking hunting grounds. Best of luck as November approaches.
Good work and congratulations! I was in a wedding this weekend so was unable to get out. Weather was crappy all weekend here anyway so good timing for it.
You guys should have seen the belly on her, she's actually already field dressed in the pic. She was a slob!
Thanks buddy. We have a weird south wind here. Going to set up where three ridges meet up. I am hoping something drops off one of those ridges. I am going to hunt a little lower on the terrain than usual tonight. 14 days until my vacation starts!
Being as its dark as I type this I assume your buck is already on the ground. Ill try to be quicker with my good luck wishes next time
Another public land hunter thought it would be great to walk through my hunting area 30 minutes before sundown. The area I picked looked great and had a bunch of active scrapes. Oh well, those are the breaks on the place I hunt.
That sucks man, sorry to hear that. What was he doing walking around @ deer thirty? Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk 2
Sorry to hear that Brett, public land is great but it sucks to have a hunt ruined by another hunter. Just finished a morning hunt at a stand I really like and I didnt see a thing. This has been a tough year for me so far been out 5 times only saw a few deer and nothin even close to a shot opportunity. Was going to go out this evening but im to worn out, today i was up at three and in my stand at five am so I think im going to go home and go to bed. was going to go out tomorrow but their calling for rain in the morning if it clears up ill get out tomorrow night.
I agree with catching up on your sleep if you are worn out. I used to be 100% all the time in the woods, now I take it slow and steady, building up as the end of October nears. That approach keeps my energy reserves in place when I really need them.
This is the longest it's ever taken me to get a doe on the ground; I've usually got at least two -- if not three or four down by now. Had one sneak up to within 8 yards of the tree tonight from behind because the ground was soaking wet, and I got busted trying to get my bow off the hook... Hopefully by this weekend... Heading up to the Missouri/Iowa border next week with a couple buddies to hunt some really good-looking property that I've driven by before... 8,000 acres of public land, but it's in an ideal spot for some whoppers. Then it'll be back to Missouri and Illinois getting serious for some big bucks. Good luck teammates!
Good luck to everyone hunting this weekend. I am hitting the woods this weekend after a very long 2 weeks without being able to. Should be a good weekend!
