Good luck guys, I cannot wait to be in Illinois on the 2nd of November. I am ready to see all your kill photos! Sent from my iPad using Bowhunting.com Forums
Update from the mountain side. We have gotten into some elk but the wind is killing us. My father-in-law had a bull at 50 yards last night but couldn't get visual before the wind switched. I'm currently nestled into a small little area where there are some fallen trees that have come together. It's been fun but these mountains are no joke! Hopefully this evening we can get it done but it has been pretty hard due to lack of bugling.
Man food sources are gonna be gone fast this season. A lot of fields already being picked or ready to be picked, acorns have been dropping for over a month, rain has been non existent so very little foliage. Could be a grind this season Mathews HTR, Sword 5 pin, Truball release, Goldtip XT hunter 300, QAD 125 gr Swept, QAD rest
Same here man. Some bean fields are already being harvested while others haven’t even began to turn yellow. I’m lucky and still have some green beans on the farms I hunt. The acorns are raining also. We finally are getting some better bucks showing up on camera now that the velvet is off. I’m also finding tons of scrapes popping up on the field edges.
Well I got back on Thursday afternoon and it was a great trip! No elk, but great memories with my father-in-law. We saw 4 moose and almost got trampled by 2 of them. Saw 4 black bears, one of which was right on the walking path and I about myself. Saw a bunch of mule deer and got into a bunch of fresh elk sign with my nearest encounter getting blown up by a bull moose and my father-in-law's opportunity was blown up due to swirling wind. Many beautiful sights but the best experience was coming home and receiving a great big hug from my 18mo daughter. As for trying to get on the board I went and sat on some public this morning and didn't see a thing; I'm heading to my in-laws 80 acres and can hopefully capitalize on a buck tonight.
I’m waiting for a cold front , I don’t have a shooter patterned yet Mathews HTR, Sword 5 pin, Truball release, Goldtip XT hunter 300, QAD 125 gr Swept, QAD rest
Those are some great pictures! Sounds like an awesome trip regardless of whether anybody killed anything or not. Thanks for sharing.
Looking forward to the cool front coming later this week. It’s supposed to go from 80 on Thursday down to a high of 55 on Friday. I have a shooter that is showing up just after last light and I’m hoping Friday is the day he messes up. I do have another decent buck that’s tempting me with daylight pics at the same stand but We only get one buck tag here in Ohio.
Been having record high temps here in the South, high 90s this week! I'm staying out of the stand and just keeping the pressure off until this cold front moves in this weekend. Suppose to jump from 96 high to 70 degrees high, lows in upper 40s to 50. Hopefully that will get the deer up and moving
Had a great first this this evening. Had a basket 8 at last light 15 yards followed by 4 does at 20 yards. Might hunt this piece of public more often Mathews HTR, Sword 5 pin, Truball release, Goldtip XT hunter 300, QAD 125 gr Swept, QAD rest
Here's a report of my opening weekend here in Michigan. I was able to finally get out on Friday evening for my first sit. I seen several does across the bean fields but nothing close. Then at 6pm I had this 7pt walk behind me at 20 yards. It happens so fast I forgot to turn on my Tactcam and record it. I need to measure him yet. Been busy processing him. Maybe tonight. Is there a form for measuring? He's not big but I want to do it right. Are these pics ok? I hope. View attachment 97931 View attachment 97932
Great work Bobcat! Way to put us on the board! And there is a thread somewhere on the site that breaks down how to score him.
Congrats Bobcat! Way to break the ice and fill up the freezer. I hunted Friday night - Sunday am in Central Michigan this weekend. Saw lots of deer and passed 6 young bucks and a few does. Itching to release an arrow! Won't make it out until the next cold front now.
Congrats Bobcat! I missed a nice 9 last night on public in MN. I actually went in to go after a small 6--carrying all my gear back in on public to get into deer made me excited and was totally going for the experience and the 6 ended up moving in and skirting me and later toward dark I heard a noise and all of the sudden the 9 came around the corner of the corn but he sucked my arrow. He didn't know what happened and ran off. I am going in tomorrow with hopes of seeing that 9 again and getting a harvest. That was the first time I have had a deer duck my arrow...keep in mind I have only shot a handful of deer, I couldn't believe it even though I knew to aim low. All in all it was a great night of events and am looking forward to getting back in there but this time around I am sneaking in closer to the bedding area and hopefully will see him with more light than what I already had.
