I’m pretty much ready to roll! Shoot everyday and have been shooting the last couple months pretty heavily. Know exactly where I’ll be opening weekend as long as we don’t get some crazy wind to deter me. But should be good with almost any wind and just have to watch where I walk on the set up. All I have to do is buy a license and tag! Oh and another bottle of sawyers lol Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I’ve shot a few different times this summer but I dusted the bow off tonight. My little guy was my arrow quiver. My distances go 20, 30, 40, 50 and 60 if I stand in the middle of my street. I have a black gold 3 pin with a dial. I like to play around with the three pins and then start turning the dial with an exact yardage from a rangefinder. It’s cool to shoot the same distance with different pins by using the dial.
I’m pretty much ready to roll. It’s to damn hot here in Louisiana. I won’t head to Kansas until 03 Nov.
It's fun getting the kids involved! I was shooting outside yesterday morning, rarely do I ever shoot in our driveway and somehow, which I am still trying to figure out, I missed my target and stuck the garage door after it ricochet off the driveway....I hope that's not foreshadowing my season
Take your lumps early so the season is smooth sailing! I did something like that last season when I unboxed a dozen custom built arrows, I released just as I was coming to the target, so somewhere in my woods I have a hidden arrow and I have 11 in my bag now.
I’m honestly surprised only two deer are on the scorecard. if I remember right everyone was down by a couple hundred before my season came in last year. Hopefully didn’t jinx us ha 3 more weeks here! 20 more days! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Well, it was a no-go on the final couple of days in KY. Morning sits were a total bust, with zero deer sightings. Evenings weren't bad, but it was slow on Thursday and Friday I pushed my limits on the wind direction and got busted. I knew it was iffy, but it was my last night, so I figured I would go for broke. The wind was pushing a little too far NE and the deer came from a little too far West, and that was all she wrote! Maybe next year.... Now we wait a few weeks for Illinois to open up and get back after it again. In the meantime, I have a few trees to trim, trail cameras to put out, and I hope to get out fishing a couple more times before putting the boat away for the winter.
Sounds like you gave it hell. That’s all we could ask hahah. We’re getting a little “cool” down in southern Ohio this week. Might as well just swing back over there next weekend! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
We were on the bottom of the page so I figured I would put us back up to the top. I put a ladder stand together on Sunday night with my two year old son in the woods. He was having a blast running up and down the trail. I got a few cameras placed and I have a cousin deploying our cuddelink a few cameras at a time. Hopefully we will have that fully deployed by the weekend. I watched two yearling bucks hanging out in a food plot but no big ones to write home about for now. Hopefully with the weather cooling off and a week soak on the cameras I put out I’ll see something good. I’m going to try and get out Saturday evening for opening day in MN.
Got pics of this fella this morning...not a giant but a decent 8, only having two cameras out this is the biggest deer I've got Intel on as far as rack size goes; theres another nearly identical 8 that has a much larger body, but i havent seen him for a few weeks. If he stays active in the morning and I'm getting photos I'll be moving in Saturday morning to make a play. Otherwise my plan is to go to a WMA thats within 10 minutes and go sit along the creek bottom where it's thick and a long way to get back to. Lots of sign last year there and I'm going to try to be a bit more aggressive being that work is looking to not have as much flexibility this year.
Here's a few bucks I've got on the various farms I hunt. I don't think any of them are bigger than 140's, but they're all 4-5 year old deer that I would happily put an arrow through.
What are you using for your licking branch? It looks tied to a rope at the top. I tie a 3 foot piece of grapevine that is inch+ diameter to a branch and hang it waist to chest high.
It's actually a natural vine! That sucker just happened to be in place and so when I hung the camera I just cleared some excess branches and then used another stick to whack some weeds and create a scrape, I've had doe and bucks come and rub and lick the vine so it's working out really well haha
We had a little sparring action this morning. I requested the video but heres a picture of the boys playing.
If the wind is right this weekend I’m going to go glass the ridge I’m planning on hunting opening day from a distance. The acorns were still green but starting to drop some last weekend. If I see anything promising at all then it’ll be decided that will be my opening morning game plan. I really should probably invest in a trail camera but I like struggling lmao.
