Had that guy and another nice 8 chase a doe across the cornfield to me. They’re still out looking for sure. The properties that I wasn’t seeing bucks in November they seemed to have moved in. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Saw a pile of does tonight and had a young buck come destroy my decoy, but haven't been able to get on the big ones yet! Tomorrow I'm taking my son for his last sit of the year and then I'll be back out on Sunday to try again. One of these times it's gonna happen! (or that's what I keep telling myself)
Pretend you’re in a one buck state and mash one of those doe lol Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Just got out of the stand. I have three tags to fill here in my parish. Making venison chili for this long weekend.
I got skunked today. Not a single deer to be seen and i sat all but 2 hours of daylight..I really need to jump to another county. Deer numbers are awful in mine this year. Still have a public land doe and private land doe I’m allowed to take. Would love some snow so I can figure out where they’re hiding ha Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I've had a few nice bucks on camera during hunting hours, but they are smart enough to not pattern themselves. It's a cat and mouse game here... -fsh
Saturday, I took my son out to our lease - sat on a 1-acre standing soybean plot with 2" of fresh snow on the ground and didn't see a single deer. Very odd! Sunday, I hunted locally and also did not see a single deer. Last night, I moved to the other side of the farm and saw a dozen of them, but nothing in shooting range except a 1-year-old buck. I do have a pretty good bead on where the does are, but I'm not sure I'll get another crack at them before the season is out. Too much going on at work to sneak out for afternoon sits this week, and next week we're off to St. Louis for the ATA show. I am going down to our lease in Central IL this weekend to pull my cameras and squeeze in a couple of hunts, and there's a pretty high likelihood of getting a doe in range, which is the goal. It's not over until it's over!!
We need 3 according to my scorecard! Which doesn’t update right so I could be wrong.. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Way to keep after it. I wish I had time to go out and enjoy the woods one last time. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
A single 50-point doe would push us up into third place! I may need to get serious about this nanny-whacking after all. I've let too many of them walk.
I’ve definitely had my opportunity but for some reason I just haven’t been able to connect well this year. Almost all my missed opportunities have been under 15 yards. Equipment seems fine so idk if It’s deflection or what but I’ve been awful. Shooting lights out in the backyard even out of the saddle. Still not giving up though! Nice shot! Muzzleloader season this weekend with the family. Gonna try to get a doe also after that with the bow. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Well boys, I failed on my quest to kill a doe this weekend. I saw a pile of deer both Friday and Saturday night but the only ones close enough to shoot were a pair of fawns. Everything else was well out of bow range and that may be it for my season! Snow storm rolling in tomorrow, we leave for ATA show on Weds morning and get back (hopefully) Saturday night. If I feel up to it I may drag myself out for a Sunday afternoon sit to finish the season out, so there may be one last chance.
Is anyone else besides Justin and I still trying to get us a doe? Or even a buck? It’s extremely slim pickings around here lol thinking about throwing out a cornpile to take one more doe(legal here in Ohio although I’ve never shot one over bait). Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I'm still going out. I had a buck about 80yds out yesterday - but he was chasing does and quickly left the scene. I couldn't tell if he had any size. I have a few modest bucks coming to other bait sites, but usually a few hours before/after legal. Some colder weather will be coming next week and perhaps that will help my cause. -fsh
They’re coming out of the woodworks here in Ohio as we dip down to the teens and single digits. I’ve seen more deer driving back and forth to work than I have all year ha these things never cease to amaze me. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Well that's the end of the season for me! I ended up getting stuck in Central IL while trying to make it back from St. Louis on Saturday night. It was a total whiteout and I couldn't see the hood of my truck driving up the highway so we called it and got a hotel room then drove the rest of the way yesterday morning. I wasn't quite man enough to sit in below zero temps in a tree on the last night so I officially threw in the towel on this season. Here's to looking forward to next year!
