Thanks guys! I’ll get the score finished up tomorrow and post it. I had a fun time getting him out so I’m beat. 240lbs on the hoof. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Nice work!! I’ll get mine added to the score card when I’m at my computer later today or tomorrow. Got home last night and got him all cut up and ready to grind and pack later today. Right now I’m in a tree looking for another one. Scored just shy of 135. This is my signature. There are many like it but this one is mine.
Well it was good to put some blood on the ground, though he doesn't help the team. I shot a sika stag this weekend over on the Eastern Shore of MD - excellent eating ahead! -fsh
Congratulations! I hear they are incredible table fare Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
That stag is sweet looking. Is that the average size of them? Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Sika are a smaller member of the elk family. The stags avg around 80#, and my stag may be close to that. The hinds (females) are somewhat smaller. -fsh
Congrats bud! Glad to see everyone having success! My girlfriend missed a big one tonight. I put her in a money spot and I kinda just sat back and watched out of the way ha. Came into 15 but she froze up. Ending up shooting when it was at 30 and hit a branch. She was covered up in deer but nothing came into range where I was. Next weekend it’s every man for itself hahah November 10 is my favorite day of the year! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
How do you hunt the stag. They look like a goat. From a Treestand/blind or spot and stalk Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I got my buck added to the score card. I'll probably shoot a doe sometime in December and hopefully rack up a few more points for the team! Good luck out there, everyone.
I hunt from a tree stand over a baited site (ok to bait on private property). Otherwise it's very difficult to stalk them because the sika usually hang in a mucky marsh with phragamites (a giant reed 6' -10' tall). Sika have a keen sense of smell and excellent eyesight. My stag came from out of this marsh:
Phragmites are the worst! They are taking over all of the cattail marshes around here. Between that crap, bush honeysuckle, and European buckthorn, we have some of the worst habitat I've ever seen.
I will be finally able to go out hunting this weekend. Taken off early Thursday and took Friday off. Hopefully with the temp drop they should be moving better. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
According to my trail cameras they are moving great right now even with the warmer temps. I'm getting non-stop buck pics all day for the last few days.
We had a new one show up last night and a little action this morning. I have a feeling Thursday will be a hot action day. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
