Small world! Our manufacturing company is an OEM for liferaft components. I have attended the workboat show in New Orleans several times which you are probably familiar with if you are involved in shipbuilding.
I live in east central ish Illinois. Been married for 14 yeah this November. I have three kids 11, 7, and a 3 year old. Work as a HVAC tech. Not sure how many time I will be able to go this year. Doing a big remodel in the house this year. Justin have you ever tried fishing at Newton Lake down in Jasper county. One of the best bass lakes in the state.
So last year we had 2 definite shooters that as far as we know are still roaming around. They don't show up until near the end of October and they only hand around for a month. Oddly enough that's the norm for this property. We have some decent ones all year but the big boys show up mid October- end of November. The reason for this is our land is surrounded by thick property that's owned by an electric company that basally gets zero pressure on it so they feel safe there. Once its time to chase the doe they venture onto ours. Only 1 year we had 2 resident shooters and both of those are now hanging on the wall. Here is Arnold. Arnold got his name due to the growth on his chest. "Its not a tumor!" Arnold is one of the bucks that came in last year then disappeared. As far as we know he is still alive. Here is stickers. As far as we know he is still alive as well and hope he shows back up. And here is 2 decent ones we have so far this year. We have others that we have pictures of in the field and such but I don'twant to flood to many pictures in 1 post.
My past life involved working as a research engineer for Navy EOD (bomb squad). I retired 18yrs ago, but am still dealing with the loss of my wife last year (married 51yrs, no kids). That is Ruby in my avatar - a talented wirehaired dachshund who tracked hundreds of wounded deer. Old age caught up with Ruby and I had to retire her. Decent bucks in my 'hood will score in the 140-150 range, and it's been a few years since I've tagged one. Maybe I'll get lucky, lol.
You guys all have cool stories. I sling pizza rolls at General Mills hahaha have a pile of kids in my house and live for bowhunting and bass fishing! I don’t run cameras and almost exclusively just scout my way in and hunt. Besides occasionally setting up on mapping attributes, even though that 80% of the time just takes me to a crowd ha but every hunt is an adventure and I live for it! My kiddos are still too young (5 and 6) so I’m grinding away while I still can! Lots of bucks from previous years I keep in my memory bank. Just gotta make sure the sign is there to tell me they are there. Super excited for this year to come..been checking acorns the last month here and there and know exactly where I’ll be opening day! Shooter buck or doe will get it! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Also for everyone telling us that they’ll be lucky to get a buck this year….confidence is key! Go into it with confidence and the deer just seem to find you! If not stay confident that you can find them! I may or may not have shot a sub 100” two year old last year hahaha but it was the smallest buck I’ve ever taken with a bow and I am surely going to do better than that this year! I feel it! We got this! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Also, not trying to blow up our thread with just my replies, you probably don’t remember my name but about 6 years ago when I was pretty down on my luck and a new father…I made a post asking for a cheap safety rope someone might have laying around to use with my climber at the time. You sent me a whole package with two hss 30ft ropes and a bunch of BHOD stuff. I never forgot it and you don’t know how much it helped me out. After I used them for a year and was able to start upgrading all my gear it went to a buddy that has a son with autism. He got his first two deer using them and is hooked to this day. Thought I’d share that we have a good dude on our side haha! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Opening day of dove season is Friday, an event that marks the "end" of fishing and the "beginning" of hunting. I plant a few acres of sunflowers every year on my farm (pic from early July). Anyone else headed out for dove? -fsh
I haven’t been dove hunting in a couple of years. Always say I will do it this year and life just gets busy. Good luck on Friday.
Last time I went dove hunting was 20 years ago when I was 11. Using my papaws side by side 12ga. Literally couldn’t hit anything hahaha but it was still a blast. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Two more guys to sign in and we are set. Grandma and Grandpa are taking the kids tonight so I'm going to drop off a bottle of wine for the wife and finish seeding our food plots tonight. I just picked up an electric ATV mount seeder at Cabela's the other day so I am excited to see how that works. Any good team name ideas?
Sounds like a solid plan! I have to get through work today, get home and get my truck loaded and we’re heading out tomorrow morning about 3-4 am for the property to finish up plots and such before season starts. We have 5 plots to plant. Great team name question. Some of my best thinking comes while driving out there (what we call windshield time) so I’ll see what ideas I can come up with on my 10 hour drive. We also need to nominate a team captain. Here’s a picture that came through yesterday of a decent buck checking out on of our new trails we put in over Memorial Day. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
My cousins in Kansas are keeping me up to date with potential buck on the farm and neighboring farms within 3 miles. So this is a mix of on the farm and neighbors. A lot of potential.
