Sounds like a great morning! I've found this time of year to be very feast or famine. The first does are starting to come into estrus and if you're anywhere near them, you'll see bucks all day long. If you're not, it's like being in a wasteland. Which is where I was at this morning.

Yes sir! Congrats man! I passed on a decent one tonight. Little bucks chasing all day and he came through tearing stuff up ha. Was wide but spindly 3 year old. Gonna push on to the next saddle in the morning and might even bang some bone together

Alright fellas, so today was a wild one! I went to my inlaws to hunt today as this is the week I take off before shotgun season. I debating on getting set on between either the south end of a draw which has cut corn or the north end which has crp, I opted for the north end as I had seen three does there the other morning. I take my time and slowly walk up and get to where I'm going to set up and then I have the dilemma of which tree to pick. After about 5 minutes of contemplating I opt for a skinny tree and so I take my pack off and u hook my sticks. I'm stepping on all kinds of branches and crunching up a storm and as I'm going to prep my first stick I hear some crashing. Thinking it's a doe and amazing an itchy trigger finger I set my stick down and through the brush I actually sew antlers. A good 8 pointer reveals himself and gets behind a bunch of brush and I think he's going to come to my right when all of the sudden I see a big white rack and starting praying. He comes in and through the brush I have an opening at 4 yards and let the arrow fly. I couldn't believe it and was in awe of what had just happened; I started making calls and then go look for blood and it was evident that he was hit good. I waited about 45 minutes before tracking too far then after the track its just a gnarly blood trail and end up finding him after 50 yards. Scored him out at 144 3/8. 20231030_184017.jpg

It is, it went in right behind the left leg and exited on out in the front of the right leg, it must have deflected something because I found that to be odd too.

Heck yeah, boys!!! That's the way to get it done. Congrats to both of you.

My buddy killed one of the hit listers on our main farm last night, and the neighbor gut shot the #1 buck on our lease down south last night as well. Went in after him this morning and found him bedded still alive, so they backed out. I guess that's two less bucks for me to chase, but oh well! On to the next one.

I sat in the freezing cold, snow, and wind this morning and saw a bunch of does. Apparently, the bucks didn't get the memo that they're supposed to be chasing them and snooping around their bedrooms right now because they were nowhere to be found.

I'm surprised you didn't blow out of the tree if your winds were the same as they were here - gusts around 30 mph. Another guy I know went out today and he said he just saw a few does as well.

On a different note, as my buddy and I were cleaning up the buck I shot, my buddy goes "dude, what the heck...check this out," and proceeds to pull am arrow out the back strap. Moments later, he finds a broadhead...my briadhead! This was the buck I shot the first week of the season and thought it was an 8. Turns out the first shot rode along the backstrap.

Keep at it fellas and best of luck!

    Ps, thanks for the congrats!

Get out of here. I have deer to watch hahaha

Also heading out soon! Kids are off to school. Deer are going nuts here. I’ve seen 30+ deer a day but not the right one. I’m not even that picky this year but nothing has tine length at all. Hearing all the vocalizations and chasing has me thinking about it ha doe patrol has been put on hold.

Another new one showed up today. They’re moving like crazy out there right now. I hope they’re doing the same next week when I’ll be there but it’s supposed to warm up compared to this week so we shall see. But I’m keeping faith in it happens the same time every year.
