I Have always wanted to find them. Have you ever found some chanterelles? They are a nice and “meaty” mushroom.

It was 68 degrees when I left the office yesterday. By the time I got to my lease it was down to 48 and down to 38 when I got back after my hunt. Viva la cold front! I saw a decent buck last night bumping a doe around, but probably not a deer I would have shot. This morning was slow - just a doe and a small buck. Hoping the action picks up tonight! Things should be ripe out there.

Side note - the one my buddy shot showed up on a scrape last night, looking just fine. You can see the exit hole about mid-body. Entry was at the very top of his back on the other side. Must have cut through the strap and maybe rode down the outside of the ribs on it's way out? He worked that scrape pretty good like nothing was wrong with him.

With this rain that came thru. Would you guys hunt a field edge or in the woods?

An unpressured field edge with scrapes is hard to beat after a rain in October. But if there’s no scrapes I’d go find some scrapes lol

Image1698597644.003160.jpg I was in thinking 1 or 2. Haven’t hunted these woods this year. And I was taking decoy out. I’m leaning towards 1.

I'd say 1 and hope they come from the big woods.

I wouldn’t hate if this guy stuck around for a couple weeks.

There’s also been a sighting of a buck that’s not wide but tall and mass for days running around. We don’t have him on camera yet but from the intel I have so far I may know about where he’s traveling. He’s been seen twice so far.

    Any luck?

Little update from me in the hills of Ohio. The deer are all dead. That is all.

We have smooth and cinnabar chanterelles around here, excellent 'shrooms! Here is a mess of cinnabars I picked a few years ago.

I ended up seeing 25 does. Not a single buck. If it wasn’t Sunday. There would of been a lot dead. I think I went a total of 20 mins of not seeing a deer.

I guess that’s better than seeing nothing! Sounds like it wasn’t a snoozer sit.

Sat afternoon I had the buck I'm looking for come out in the field, see my decoy, and head for the next county. Such is life with a decoy! Sometimes they like it, and sometimes they don't.

Sunday morning I got skunked, last night I saw a spike and a doe, and this morning I saw a forky and a doe. The big ones are moving on camera, just can't seem to find them in real life! I'm working the rest of the day today and back after it in the morning, then heading to central IL on Weds. It's going to warm up a bit, but I don't think that will matter too much. When it's time, it's time.

That sounds about like the luck I have had with decoys. I’ll give them a try again eventually but not this year lol. More than likely when I move to Missouri and have more time to hunt.

I’m leaving right after work on Friday and staying in Danville then off to the property early Saturday morning. I prefer to make the trip in 1 shot but it just worked out better this way this time with work and such. Should get me at my place in time for the afternoon hunt on Saturday once I get everything settled in.

I've definitely scared more deer with the decoy than not, but I've always wanted to kill one over a decoy, and I'm not stopping until I do! I had one come in last year in late November, but he was about 10 minutes too late. He stood at 30 yards, snort wheezing at it, then eventually fed out in the field at 50 yards and then worked back into 15 yards and stood face to face with the decoy for a couple of minutes. There was snow on the ground, so I could watch the whole thing happen, even though it was well after dark by that point. Just need that to happen in daylight this time.

Well saw more deer this morning than I have all year lol first I bumped a shooter walking in. He stood at 10 yards in my light and then slowly walked off. It was very windy and raining. Weather app said it would stop at 9 so I went. Didn’t stop til 11….but anyway deer running absolutely everywhere. Wanted to climb down so many times because I was soaked and freezing but kept pushing through waiting for it to stop. Never did lol ended up repelling down quickly and sneaking out of there. Probably seen at least 5 little bucks pushing doe all through the thicket I was in. A big doe came into 15 and peed in the scrapes I am hunting then immediately got pushed off. Deer were VERY vocal this morning. Drying my clothes and heading back out!
