I've got a chaotic work week this week but hoping to get out Friday and then Saturday night. Next week I'm all over the place for presentations but starting Friday the 27 I'm on vacation for a week. Our gun season starts Nov. 4 which blows because after that it's hard to get on the deer, so hopefully in the next two weeks I can get it done for a buck.
We have early antlerless and youth season coming up this weekend that coincides with statewide teacher in-service. It certainly changes the characteristics in the woods but if it gets kids outdoors and into hunting I'm all good with it. I will be adding orange to my camo this weekend (state requirement for safety) I think the kids hunting on the neighboring properties might move some deer my way.
Congrats bud! Way to get us on the board! Been a struggle bus this way hahaha but I did find some big buck sign. Idk when I’ll be able to get on him because I have the kids this week. But nice to know he’s in the area. Ready for the rut and to hopefully get lucky lol Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I hunted Tuesday night and saw a doe & fawn only. Last night, I hunted my lease out in NW IL for the first time this season and saw two little bucks. Although my cell cams showed me I had multiple 3 & 4-year-old bucks up on their feet right at last light, none of them were where I was sitting, as usual. It looks like I'll be able to hunt tomorrow afternoon, both mornings this weekend, and possibly Saturday afternoon. Next week work is going to be pretty busy, and it looks like some stormy weather mid-week, but after that, the temps look like they're going to start dropping, and I'm going to be out as much as I possibly can. It's juuuuuuuuuuuust about go time for real.
Go time is getting closer and closer and I'm ready for it! I wish that first frost would hit so those leaves fall off the trees faster. I only have 2 more weeks of work until I'm in a tree for a week. Traditionally November 6th has been my best day out there. Last yuear I took the week before that off in hopes of getting a Halloween buck but I ended up getting it the day after. So this year I went back to my normal second week of November. I just wish it would get to cooling off more.
My boy and I seen a 160 inch dogging a doe In a field at 9:00 last night. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
It's beginning to look a lot like Rut-tober, bucks on every doe. I will be out tonight and depending on what the card pulls look like I'll head out in the morning if I see any bucks following does.
I will be in Indy all weekend for baseball. Apparently the coach is not a hunter. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I am so glad we're done with fall baseball! Thankfully, football only has a few games left, and they are all local. All of our baseball travel happens in the spring & summer, thankfully.
Goodluck this weekend fellas! It’s my work weekend but might be able to sneak out Sunday evening. Next weekend it’s on! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Headed out for an evening hang and hunt. Gonna scout my way back…if nothing pans out today I’ll be out after I get the kids the school tomorrow. Idk about where you guys are but big bucks are hitting the ground in my area pretty heavy Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Hey y’all, Hunted sat afternoon, didn’t see a dang thing. Friggin 86 degrees. Then drinking my coffee this morning at my kitchen window and 4 does trot buy the back of my house at 40 yards. Gggrrr. 2 weeks until 7 days in Kansas.
Didn’t see a deer…felt great too…I’m not finding many scrapes yet besides on a couple acorn flats. Still felt like it was going to happen tonight but didn’t hahah gonna go do some scouting and might set up after I get the kids to school tomorrow. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Friday night, I had two shooters come by in bow range before dark, I was at full draw on both of them, and no arrows fired. It was a bit of a mental breakdown, to be honest. The area I was hunting is so thick I can't see the deer unless it's in my shooting lanes. I heard the first one coming, and when he stepped into my first lane, it took me a minute to identify which buck it was and determine that he was a deer I wanted to shoot. So I missed my opportunity but knew he was headed towards my second lane. So I came to full draw, and when he stepped out, I was just waiting for him to give me the best angle when he turned and headed straight away from me. I never got a clean shot at him, so I had to watch him walk away. In retrospect, I could have stopped him right away and probably made it happen, but I was being greedy and wanted that one or two extra steps to let him get into the center of the lane. A few minutes later, I heard another deer coming and he did the exact same thing. He came through the first lane, but I couldn't get a positive ID on which buck it was. I could only tell that he had a pretty good rack. When he stepped into the second lane with me at full draw I had him dead to rights, but I wasn't sure which deer it was and didn't want to accidentally shoot one of our younger bucks, so I let him walk. Turns out it was a deer I probably should have shot, but it's too late now! Saturday morning, I got skunked, then saw a couple of does on Sat night and a few more on Sunday morning. I couldn't hunt last night because my son had a football game, and one of the bucks from Friday walked directly in front of the tree I would have been in. Doh! Not sure when I'll get out this week - I have to play it by ear, depending on the weather.
Went out twice, saw nothing. Pulled a camera at a newer spot and I should have been there Friday night instead of where I was at. 2.5 YO buck working a scrape 10 yards from that stand.
