Hunted Friday afternoon and Saturday morning/afternoon - saw 5 dink bucks, all feeding on whiteoak acorns. -fsh
I was not able to get out until Saturday afternoon, walked in at 2pm to the far back stand and setup by 2:45. Jumped two doe on the way in, at 3:40 had a doe and her two fawns cruise by slowly feeding, at 4:05 had a spike buck come down the same trail but moving the opposite direction the does were. At 4:25 had a forker come off my right and slowly feed past. Then at 5:45 the woods came alive, I had multiple doe with their fawns feeding past me, had a six point who will be a nice buck in another two years or so, " would call him an 8 pointer but he has 1.5 inch brow tines". Several more small dinker bucks cruised by. At 6:50 I caught sight of a large bodied deer, heavy tall rack moving along the creek to my left at about 60 yards. Could not get a good look at the rack, to many leaves on the trees still, I think it was "Stickers, big nine pointer". At last light I had multiple doe and fawn all around me, had to sit about 15 minutes until completely dark to make sure they all moved on before I climbed down. All in all a good first sit on the property, may cruise down today and pull and replace some camera cards. It is amazing how sitting in the tree stand refreshes and reinvigorates the soul, so peaceful!!! V/r Dave
He's been camera friendly as of recently. Hoping for an encounter with him soon. Sent from my Moto Z (2) using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app

Heck yeahh!!!! Way to get it done early Dogfish! Congrats on a beautiful buck. Now go get that doe for another 50 points.
Sat yesterday evening and my worst fears were confirmed.......food plots did not grow back and are pretty much a lost cause. Saw nothing all evening. Last year Oct 1st I saw 23 does and 7 different bucks. This season could be rough. We kill most of our bucks in the woods anyways but we hunt in a VERY heavily managed area with food plots and farm fields EVERYWHERE so if you don't have a reason for them to stay on your land encounters become very random and difficult to predict. Fingers crossed and trying to stay hopeful but the deck is definitely stacked against us this year.
Congratulations Dogfish!!! Very happy for you. Sent from my Moto Z (2) using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Way to get us on the board right out of the gate Dogfish! Heck yeah! Seen several deer this past weekend but nothing worth shooting. I did jump a dandy of a buck Sunday morning on my way into the stand. I was hoping he would show up after it got light enough to shoot since he was so close to my area, but didn’t happen. He was probably a good 130 class buck, but you don’t really know until you put them down and get a tape on them. Mine always seem to ground shrink a little! Lol I’ll be heading back out this weekend to give it another go. Good luck guys and stay safe.
