My guess is that it's Pennsylvania Smartweed (or some close relative, and I am not an expert). Google to see if the pics resemble what you have. Nasty stuff (as you already know). -fsh
Yesterday, I ran out to check a plot that was just seeded on Thursday and some of the seed has already germinated. I can't believe how fast it took off. The conditions have been perfect and we just got another half inch of rain on it today. Radishes, oats and turnips are all starting to bounce. Looks like I may have a great start to a fall plot.
Hey atlas, I checked with my biologist friend at Monsanto and he said looks like three types of weeds in that picture but he recommended glyphosate (@ least 25% in the solution) or Roundup but it's going to kill everything. Sent from my Moto Z (2) using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Fletch, it sure is nice when it comes together! (re Atlas' issues...). My (farm) motto is "I'm glad I don't do this for a living!" -fsh
Team name is Fletched Warriors and I'll be team captain. I'm working on a couple team logos. I think one is hilarious Sent from my Moto Z (2) using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Notice the quiver with 7 arrows... Indicating team 7. Wait what were you guys staring at? Sent from my Moto Z (2) using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Headed to Illinois in the morning to do some scouting on public land I'll be up there threw Sunday. This will be my first year to put some cameras out on public land. I plan on going back to hunt opening weekend in October and checking the cameras then. I will be going back in November but I have to plan around work being that my city revolves around college football.
Well..........it is what it is gents..............can't do anymore. We went out and brush hogged about 50% of the plots and then ran the disc for hours until everything was back to soil. Still some dead junk mixed in but seed contact shouldn't be a problem. Re planted a ton of turnips, rape, and radishes in our gun areas and oats, buckwheat, peas, chicory, clover, and some brassicas in the archery plots. It rained after we were done and plenty of rain in forcast. It's either gonna grow or it won't..........we still have some viable stuff in our plots that we left but if that's all we end up with it will be slim pickings vs our usual buffet. Al we can do now is wait and hope........as always, if we end up boned it won't be from a lack of effort
Well boys, the final days of prep are here. Got the Triax shooting bullet holes out to 60 yards " Not that I would take a shot that far" and finishing my arrow builds this weekend. Decided to go with Gold Tip Velocity Pro arrows, total arrow weight is 467. At that weight it gives me 290 FPS and 84.07 KE. Let the games begin. V/r Dave
I bet you will end up in great shape. Its a ton of work, and really sucks to have to do it all twice. But, it looked like your only option. We have gotten about 4 inches of rain since planting fall plots and all is well for the moment. But, last year was the same and then the army worm invasion took a beautiful plot back to bare dirt. There is no way I could do this stuff for a living. I would be a nervous wreck. lol. Best of luck on your extra efforts!
I'm going to pull trail cams this weekend to try and get one final peek at whatever has come through. September 7th for us Marylanders.
Here's a recently planted plot of brassicas that's off to a good start. There is a plot of chufa off to the left that will have turks in it this fall for sure. Anyone else do chufa? I call chufa "turkey crack"... Here's another brassica plot in a powerline that is also off to a good start. This is a nice kill plot - just over 30 yds wide. Deer usually don't mess with the brassicas until the acorns are gone. -fsh
As a reminder when you guys start killing deer. There is a how to score deer thread here: Home>Forums>General Hunting Forums>Whitetail Deer Hunting or you can check out the Pope and Young site here: https://pope-young.org/records/score_chart.asp 3. All entries must be accompanied by a minimum of TWO (2) photos of the hunter with the deer and your archery equipment in the picture. Have fun and don't forget to check in and let everyone know how your season is going.
Hey fellas - As an FYI we will be getting a new member. I sent him an DM asking him to check ASAP. We will have 12 guys. Sounds like the team that won last year had 12 and Brad(the admin) is trying to even things out.
As long as it’s not Buckeye. Dude kills nothing but spike bucks........may as well just pencil him in for a Fergie 50 right now.
