Howdy fellas, sorry I haven’t been to active on the page. Been busy here lately and business is starting to pick up. I’ve been working in Chattanooga TN for the past 2 weeks on a big job. Hoping to get in the woods Sunday morning.. it will be only my third sit so far☹️

Sitting in the tree now and deer have been going crazy. We have a non native species of deer in Maryland called sikas. They are starting their rut and have so many vocalizations. They are a close relative to elk but there size of a goat. Watched two stags fight out on the marsh and have had deer moving all over. Killed this one last year. IMG_20171125_143848150_HDR.jpeg

Heading down to the woods about 1 today. Hopefully I can catch "Stickers" on his feet. If anything it will give me a chance to sit another stand site and see whats moving on the other side of the farm.

In stand by 1:45, no movement until 6. Temps a little high and humid as heck, saw a small doe and a scrub 5 point. Both got a pass, think I will drive down and check some cameras today. Good luck to those hunting a be safe.

Well happy lords day everyone. I spent the morning in the deer woods. Saw 2 does but never could get an open lane, still pretty thick. Check my trail cam and had one of the deer im wanting to take on it yesterday at around 7pm... oh well maybe one day we’ll meet up.

    Helluva nice sika there Hammer!
I've been trying to "earn a buck" with little success - I need to get the doe out of the way so I 'm eligible to take a buck on the trophy portion of the Navy Base.
    Good luck all!

Sat twice this weekend with the intent of shooting some does, Had a few in range but either were looking right at me or I was standing the wrong direction and couldn't move. Im not too worried about it there is a lot of season left. I did take some decent photos that I plan to add to my photography thread if I can find a decent way to downsize them.

Had some interesting morning activity, saw 4 bucks, two 1s and two 2 year olds which is surprising, we usually dont see any 2 year olds in the morning until the rut, much less shooters.

Finished planting all my food plots yesterday rain is supposed to move in tomorrow should see some growth with in a week. I checked Camera Saturday and not a single picture of a mature buck but I do have a bunch of doe on camera and I'm not afraid to shoot a doe specially opening day. The property that I hunt is just one giant pine plantation with hardwood draws In the bottoms the bucks could be anywhere. The bucks normally start showing up when the food plot start to break the ground. My first sit will be Monday afternoon.

My two acre food plot went under three feet of water. We got over 10 inches of rain in about a weeks time and have lots of flooding. Not good at all. I'm sure it will be a total loss. Time will tell. I do have some high ground full of oaks and we had a bumper crop of acorns this year. I may just have to adjust strategy. There was a day that this would have put me into cardiac arrest. Now, I'm kind of over it. I will still hunt, there will still be plenty of deer to chase, and I will enjoy the time I get away from work to sit in the woods. It's all good.

My father-in-law was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer last week. He got his first chemo on Friday. My goal has shifted to making sure he gets out to sit in a blind and enjoy watching deer, even if he is not up to the hunt. He shot his first deer 5 years ago with me at 70 years old, and became completely eaten-up with deer hunting. He even bought ground and put up a nice cabin and puts in several food plots. He is now my focus. Please send Mr. Dean your positive thoughts and prayers if you see fit. He has never had a bad day in his life and might be the kindest, most sincere person I have ever met. He will kill a deer this year if at all possible.

I will definitely be praying for your father-in-law and his family. Sounds like y'all have a great relationship and good luck in the deer woods.

I had a 3-1/2 chase a doe out of my shooting lane yesterday evening. (I'm still trying to get my doe). I could hear him grunting; she didn't care for him and bolted. Bucks are getting frisky around here...

Congrats Hammer, to those that know little of the Sika deer, killing a 6 pt stag is like killing a BC whitetail. Killing 2 back to back is friging awesome. Ive gun hunted them ,on public, and have only smelled them and heard them. This is more than "luck", takes swap skill to even see a stag.
