Got out this morning and about 30 min. in I found my first shed of the season. The only thing it wasnt a fresh shed, it was from last years drop. But it is still a nice shed. Had a 9 1/2" G2 and look like it broke its rack in velvet right at the G3.
Thanks AI, I just think the most bucks haven't dropped yet here, not seeing much. Around here I find most of my sheds in March. I think I am jumping the gun and going out to soon and hoping with all the snow they would drop earlier.
All i can say right now is my knees feel like they were beat with a baseball bat!! My "pre cast" scouting 2 weeks ago in one of my late season shed areas paid off today. I put 5 miles on the boots today and found 5. All fresh from the last week or so. 2 of them were right at a winter food source (but only a food source when there is heavy snow cover) the other 3 were found in bedding areas about 200 yds from the same kind of food source but 2 miles deeper in the forest. I was actually suprised i did so well cause there were other boot tracks in area. There is still alot of snow in most spots and at this point i dont want it to melt. For one it will keep most people out of the bush and second,
Went back to the same area today as yesterday and picked a few more. I found a sweet honey hole that was holding quite a few bucks. They are still yarded up pretty good. I spooked a herd of about 15 or so. Im almost positive that all bucks have shed. Ill be going back tomorrow for scraps lol. Total of 3 for the day and 8 for this epic weekend. Went back to my honey hole but all the honey was gone. Looked in the area for about 3 hours for nada. Was thinking of calling it a day but just couldnt go home empty handed knowing i only got aboit 30 days left in my season here. I decided to go about a mile away to a spot i checked last year that was ripped apart. Within 20 mins i had my first antler. A nice 4 pt. It still had blood on it and the tree rats had already took a nice chunk out of it. The second and third were a small matching pair about 10' apart. The 4th was a small 2pt and the 5th was a beautiful 4 point. After i got home i was looking at my sheds from yesterday and realized that #5 from today was the other side to one i had found yesterday!
Just got in from another round of shed hunting. Today i got 2. 1 was in a bed and the other was on a trail. Still some snow on the ground in some places but its melting off quick.
I PMed him when the teams were announced and asked for a replacement a couple weeks back...never heard back on either.
Well today my good luck streak ended. I walked about 5 hours for a big fat ole goose egg. I was very suprised. Tomorrow is another day i guess.
Got some nice sheds coming in. Talked to a guy in our club today and he said he pulled his cams on monday. All bucks still were carrying so we havent started dropping here yet. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
3 more today. Not in my honey hole but in a spot i dont get to to often. 2 fresh ones and one from last year that was chewed on by the tree rats. I plan on tearing up the bush this weekend before the foot of snow comes monday.
