I’m up elk hunting and got service at this spot. I passed on 3x2 yesterday. He was 22 yards normally I would have taken him. His buddy he was with was a good buck. Probably in the 160-170 range. I kept trying to maneuver myself to get a shot at him and my eyes aren’t as good as they used to be. I jumped a two point and well the rest is history. That is the second time a two point as messed me up. I was putting the sneak on some elk and got within a 100-120 yards and jumped a two point. Needless to say that stock didn’t go to well.
For my next story. I have a gentleman that I met at church that wanted to try bow hunting. Good kid I think he’s around 30 years old. Besides being his first time bowhunting, he has never elk hunted. Saturday night we had two Cow elk come right into us. It was all I could do not to shoot one. I really wanted him to have the opportunity. He drew back and held back for at least two minutes and never shot. I had them at 25 yards. He got the classic buck fever. He told me they were so big. He didn’t know what to do.
    Anyway, I’m having a ball

Sorry I haven’t responded to much. We have had full mission profiles at work all week. Today I am loading the sxs and all my gear and heading to my unit this evening. I have broadheads hitting perfect at 60 yds. Time to put an elk down.

Good luck Wedes. In the area I hunt elk it is Spike or cow only. Yesterday evening I had a spike by three come in. As long as one side is a spike it is legal. I had him at 30 yards twice. I could not get a shot at him. It was an intense 20 minutes. I had to keep calming myself down so if the shot would have presented itself I could take it.

That’s awesome! My tag is either sex. Obviously would love to kill a bull but I will put a cow down at the end if needed. I have been building points in Utah. Always love going there but have never hunted. Just waiting for a year (after the military) to go. We train at UTR a lot. Spent many a freezing night in a zero degree bag in negative temps up in those mountains in the winter.
