45 degrees and no snow left on the ground this weekend. I'm dedicating a whole day to it on Saturday or Sunday. I just picked up a new pair of brush pants, so I'm absolutely ready to rock. I'm going for a 10-shed day this weekend. Anything less than that will be a letdown.
we still have like 2' of wet, slushy snow. Sweet. Going to look for some freshies, this weekend, anyway. I need some snowshoes, or sumthin. I'm hopefully going to kill a 'yote too.
You going to Ohio or just tromping PA this weekend ?? Are those bursh pants beaver resistant ?? LOL They are talking a possible blizzard for us this Sunday and a not so nice a day Saturday. We will probably just go out Saturday as things are still pretty quiet in the antler dropping process here. Was out for a couple hours in a really good area on a long dinner break from work today and didn't find squat. Yesterday was squat also for my hour hike at dinner. Tomorrow will probably be the same but curious to check another area out for sign. Good luck !! Tim
I really feel like we should be the "rodents", they always seem to find sheds better and faster than me anyways.
Tim, I like to think of my pants as "Beaver Attractant." I think it might be my muchismo pheromones I'll be breakin' it down in Ohio this weekend. I can't wait to get out of work on Friday! If we're going to be a rodent, I think we should be the Beavers. Maybe "Angry Beavers?" Or maybe "The Giant Beavers?"
Saturday is out for me, but if it's not a downpour & you want some company on Sunday, give me a holler.
Packing up today, moving out west to the mountains. Pretty soon I'll get to start scouting my little piece, and the large public game lands (Pisgah) nearby. I hope I'm not offline too long, and I'll post em when I find em!
Chalk up 9 more for team 6. I headed out to Ohio on Sunday to pick through some pine-laden yarding areas on a friend's private ground. The forecast called for a steady downpour, and oodles of deer sheds. It was kinda like the scene in Caddyshack where the Bishop is amidst a torrential downpour, playing the round of his life. I couldn't stop finding them. It was raining sheds. I was swimming in them. 8 small ones and one big boy. Here's a nice 4x shed that is the match to the same right side that I picked up last year. He went from 90"ish to 120-125 in the course of one year. Here's a nice 110-115" 5x? At this point, I had to put the camera in my plastic baggie, because it was pouring like a mofo. I used my cameraphone to snap a picture of the big boy. 64" 4 pointer. Mass like a ballbat. 5, 9.5 and 6" tines. Really impressive antler. You can figure out which one is the big one. I'm at 16 now for the season. I was originally shooting for 20, but now I think it's time to raise the bar to 30. Rybo - the next time I go, I'm definitely heading for the Wildlife Area, so I will reserve you a spot in the passenger's seat. I'll wait until you can join me before I go in there looking for Tinezilla.
Congrats on the first sheds of the year, Rybo! Can't beat a matched set to start out, eh? Fran, you're killin it. Keep it up. I'll be out, for the first time actually shed hunting, Friday afternoon for sure, and again sunday [pending the hangover status!! My buddy is fighting an MMA fight up north in Duluth, and after he wins, we'll probably have to go to a bar or 5 ]
Ryan... congrats on the set !! Fran... nothing like being on fire !! Congrats !! The 4 pt is a darn good shed. Wonder if the buck is still running around this year ?? Kyle... good luck... on the hang over !! LOL :P Tim
Well done boys, I'm still getting trail cam pics of deer with both antlers... usually the middle to end of February before they start droppin here!
Fran, You MAY be better at shed hunting then bowhunting...maybe. Congrats. Now. #1, when the hell are you going to send out invites for a shed hunting party and: #2, we gunna hunt some Ohio gobblers this spring?
