No worries, the best is yet to come over the next 3 days. Call that one fate, and the next one will be destiny!
Well guys, I got back from IL yesterday and lets just say it was a long and disappointing drive home. We scouted and hung stands last Saturday. We were the first ones on the property this year. Not as much big buck sign as we were hoping for. We hung one set in the same tree as the previous year were I had 2 p&y encounters from within bow range and didn't seal the deal. Same outcome this year. Sunday morning we got a later start then we should of. I got to my tree at about shooting light just about got settled in, had an arrow nocked for probably a minute didn't have time to get my quiver off. Heard some grunting and turn to see good buck heading straight at me 33 yards out. Attach my release to the d loop and he's at 25 then he's at 20 then at 15 he turns to my left behind some thicker branches I draw he stops then turns towards me gets to 10 and now broadside I grunt stop him and attempt to get a bead on him and hit my release. He wheels off sideways and bolts for 60-80 yards then stops. Didn't hear anything after that woods was very wet from rain the day before. I'm all jacked up for a but then finally kind of calm down and see my arrow in the ground and think that don't look good seems to be back and close to me then it should if it'd be a good hit. Well got down after half an hour walked over to find some white short hair and no blood or any sign of guts on my arrow. It was a little wet, didn't smell at all. I tracked his trail for a while didn't find any blood. I believe he's still alive and I just grazed his belly. I don't know what went wrong exactly. I know with him that close I dropped my bow arm and didn't bend at the waist, I may have clipped a branch I didn't see initially. Either way I blew it. I don't know how big he was, if I had to guess I'd say around 150 class. After that I we didn't see much I believe the hot weather really hindered any daytime deer activity. I was looking to harvest a doe after that and couldn't get that done either. All in all I got some things I need to figure out with what I'm doing wrong and correct them. The one highlight was getting to see my first Bobcat in the wild. Keep at it guys and Good Luck!
We are on a roll now. For the next week I'm putting all my chips on the table...every minute I can on stand.
Hunted hard for the past 4 days. Won't be hunting next week. I'm thinking I picked the wrong week for vacation. Oh well. No way to predict 70 degree weather back in March. Weekends for me from here on out Sent from my VS980 4G using Tapatalk
I put some antlers on the ground today as well. Kicking myself a bit in hindsight but not beating myself up about it. Damn happy to get some meat in the freezer and some points on the board. Was a hassle once I got back into town, but he's at a processor and I should be back out in the morning. Hoping this processor doesn't bit me in the ***, have never used them and when I was in there I swore I was in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre(original) or of the like movie I still have another buck tag, so I can hold off and achieve my goal yet, just have to wait until next year to get that 200 point club title. Score will be a few days, I'm hungry and tired
