Just don't burn yourself out too quick.

Just ordered an electronic call, want to hear the grunts with it. If it aounds good I'm going to put it up near the decoy and if I get a curious one a bit leary I'll see what a fake grunt does with a fake deer.

Never used a decoy, hopefully I can get a doe early and start using it right away. Once I put it out guessing the doe chances will go out the window. Hope I don't screw it up trying to be too creative

I'll be on vacation next week, I think I picked the right week. Had 5 different 8 pts within bow range last weekend, let's hope my patients will pay off next week. Oddly enough I didn't have a doe close enough to shoot.

Wow. I won't see 5 8 pointers all season let alone have them all in range. Good stuff man. Good luck.

I tell you what, while I can pass on 8 pointers, unless we're talking 135"+ my fear is that perfect 10. That is current goal, clean 10. Just afraid I might shoot a lesser 10 to scratch that itch.

Seems the time change always happens at the beginning of my vacation as well. Hate that, so hard to switch my internal clock.

Yeah the one I showed in the video was really the only one to write home about. He was probably a solid 120. The next biggest was flirting with 100, and the others were going to be studs in two years

Ok so after hours after hours of looking a a check of the trail cam arsenal we have come to the conclusion the the buck a friend shot is still alive. We had blood for the first 110-120 yards then turned into pin drops found a spot wear he bedded down very little blood and some hair. After checking the trail cams he was ripping up a scape at 1:27pm this afternoon and that it was a brisket shot. So hopefully we will get more pics to confirm but I'm gonna say he will be just fine... That is, until they meet again!

Rutcation starts Friday! Can't wait! Slipped into the same small wood lot I've been hunting the past few days tonight for the last 2 hours of light and saw 2 does and a 120" - 130" 8 at 35yard drinking at the pond and tending a scrape. Decided to pass. Got some cool video though for the 2015 season video!

Posted this in the other forum on moon phase. Needless to say 5 days from this "rutting" moon is Sunday. All day sits for me regardless of weather. Getting a bit superstitious.

I will not miss a day this weekend. Seems more times than not within 5 days of the rutting moon I have had my best day(worst on one occasion) and only once when I took nothing was way after the rutting moon.

Been a bit bored this morning, so a little useless research over the past 6'ish years.

    Year/Vacation Dates/"Rutting" Moon/Buck taken date/Days from full moon

    2009/dates unavailable/Nov 3/Nov 8/+5 Days

    2010/Nov 5-14/Oct 23/No Buck/Began +13 Days after

    2011/Nov 9-14/Nov 10/Nov 5/-5 days

    2012/Nov 7-11/Oct 30/Nov 8(missed shot)/+9 days

    2013/Nov 8-17/Nov 17/Nov 12/-5 Days

    2014/Nov 7-16/Nov 6/Nov 9/+3 days

Cls you may be on to something there. I looked back at my recent successes and they are similar.

Interesting information, anybody else seeing something similar?

PS, it also gave me a good opportunity to throw those pics in there

Damn, I seen two pictures first and thought you laid the smack down!

Yeah, not sure of any science behind it but thought what the heck. I'm bored, lets see what it looks like

I love the brow tines and how tall that 11 buck is.

The one I shut under in '12 I swear would have been his twin brother.

Had same tine length and structure, but he was a couple inches wider and had a 10th point. Still makes.me.sick thinking back on it, but that's what makes us get better

Well he is a beautiful deer. I like wide racks, but there is just something when they are tall like that and have those big old brow tines that I really like.

I've got my fair share of spikes to 60 inchers as well. It's a heck of a lot easier on private ground in a big buck state.

You put your work in for those bucks, probably a little more pride to be had in them than the ones that just happen by me

Well you've given me some confidence. Here are some of my bow bucks. Didn't take pics with several others for whatever reason.

I grew up in MI, and all through growing up my brother and I had a goal of 100". I never reached that goal in that state, but have 5 times since moving to WI 6 years ago.

I haven't grown that much in my hunting abilities.

My brother(Still in MI) Shot a 120" 10 pt, the biggest deer taken out out of my 12 cousins/brothers that hunt in that state.

I would consider my brother twice as good of a hunter as myself, but score wise has little to show for it.

You will never convince me that skill trumps property when it comes to what most these days consider hunting success (Score)
