Had an awesome encounter last night. I took the opportunity to do some scouting due to the rain. I was just coming out of the woods into a clearing and noticed a pretty nice fresh rub on a pine. It was the first good size fresh rub that I've seen this year. As I walked a bit closer to examine it I looked into the clearing. A young 8 pointer was headed right at me. Already only 30yrds away, I sat tight against a pine with foliage roughly 8 ft in dia. The rub was on a pine right on the other side of the one I was behind. The 8 walked right beside the pine I was on, and proceeded to destroy a sapling pine just 8 ft from me. The entire time grunting and being very vocal. He thrashed around for nearly 2 min before moving on, and finally catching me wind on the back side of me. I guess I don't have to wonder what buck has been marking his territory in that area. What a sweet experience! Sent from my VS980 4G using Tapatalk

Brett..,.tomorrow will b east winds... The same winds that were blowing Friday when those nice bucks showed up at 9am when u was at the other property.... Do you think wind direction determines movement?
Yes. All things being equal and if there are no does in heat, then he must be there because of the wind and food source.
Hey Team , got a little signal and thought i would check in from Ohio. Got here Friday and was able to get in a tree for an evening hunt , was on the tree about 40 minutes when a doe come in to 16 yards , i put a Rage Hypodermic in the sweet spot and 21 yards later she was down. Can't post pics but will once i return home.
Congrats DTH, My report from northern WI was SLOW! Didn't get my bobcat trapped and didn't see much for deer. Although lots of scrapes showing up. not much for daytime pics. Its coming though, I think that first week of Nov. is gonna be the sweet spot timing wise. I'm hunting home(west central WI ) area for a couple days then down to IL for a long stay. Hopefully till I get one. Good luck all. The bucks will start falling soon.
Friday begins my string of dark to dark hunts. Going to take both lone wolfs with me in case I like a spot I'll just leave it up and utilize the other for mobilization. Have an XOP as well, but don't have a 3rd set of sticks. Can always pick up some cheap ladder sticks I guess if need be. Halloween day is going to start off damp, but I'll be out there waiting for it to stop. Didn't see much for scrapes last weekend, so not overly optimistic about activity first few sits. Thinking any doe that is not being followed is in trouble if she presents a shot the first few sits. If I get one down the rest get passes from me, bucks or bust from that point on. Hoping my lack of sightings this year doesn't impair my judgement on shooting something less than I'm hoping for. Time will tell that story I guess, will be a lot easier to decide should I already have meat in the freezer. High in the 50's Friday for my first sit, hopefully they'll be up and about.
Starting Thursday I'm going to get very aggressive. If I have the right wind I moving in tight to bedding areas and also saddles/funnels connecting bedding areas. If I burn out a spot I'm moving on to the next one. That is one of the benefit of hunting 50,000 acres. Even though the hunting can be tough, one can scout and find spots, burn them if necessary and keep it moving.
