I may have had one of those "I hope I don't regret this" moments this morning. Video to come.

Would have been difficult for sure. He was definitepy alert and edgy, makes me wonder if he saw something with you or maybe there was a more dominant buck near that he was on edge about. He's probably been whooped on as a smaller one.

I think you made the right call

Seen my first deer and it was a small buck. Friend decided to walk the woods out rather than the field. Wanted to see the sign inside the woods and might bump a deer out.

I had no clue where he was, how fast/loud he was moving or where he was going to exit. I stood there in the last bit of standing corn watching one spot, for some reason that is the only spot I have really focused on while sitting this edge. Never seen deer, didn't scent up the field looking for wign, just licked a spot and have sat there twice now. Just one of those things I guess, I'm sure everyone here knows that instinct lol.

Anyhow, while I would focus on that spot I would occassionally scan the field length either for maturally emerging deer or deer that were bumped. Turned back to watch that spot and there he was, looking at me. Pretty sure he was a small 1 1/2 6 point, not legal on this public land and not one I would risk a broadhead on this year. Decided to get a picture of him instead, slowly grabbed the phone. Looked down to open the camera and when I looked back up he was gone

Friend found a scrapeline down in the woodline, think i may have seen the culprit. Seen another rub an an inch amd a half sappling a hundred yards from the truck. If there was others hunting there more often I would probably sneak in that spot and set up. Thick CRP and nasty stuff, bet something is bedding in there.

He would have been in the top portion of the H with the bent stalk.

With todays hunt out of the way, that concludes my public land hunting for the next few sits. May try a spot or two once things really heat up.

It is officially go time, took my lumps and bruises with trying to get my first bow harvest on public land. That stuff is harder than it looks, even when you think everything is in order.

Private land here I come. Going to head there tomorrow morning for a sit. With any luck get a doe in the truck.

Going to try and get a stand hung where I want it. Think it will pay dividends if I do, I'll dub it "Ambush: The Sequel" if I can get one set. I just don't know if I want to chop 25-40 feet of briars to clear a trail. I'll see how it looks tomorrow and go from there. Will also be toting the decoy out there and covering it up in some brush and weeds. Should get 1-3" of rain across the area mid-week to help wash away my scent and hopefully get the bucks back up on their feet reworking scrapes.

Ready to get back into the comfortable hunting where I have higher confidence and know the area.

The time is finally here, next stop rutcation.

Got it here and put it together to make sure it was all there. Didn't want any surprises.

Smaller and lighter than I thought it would be, could carry my stand on my back, and carry bow and decoy in each hand. Not going to do that in this heat, but could do it.

Let the dog react but not get near it. Wasn't as good as I had hoped. But once he seen me knock it over, break off it's legs and shove them and it's head up his butt he has been kind of calm and obeying now
