3 days with just me and the woods starting tomorrow. Well, hopefully a few deer will be walking through those woods. Sent from my VS980 4G using Tapatalk
Got my stand hung. Didn't take any pictures of the view from it, was a bit trickier to hang than I wanted. Plus I forgot my ratchet straps in the truck, I just don't trust those cheap pull tights. Pulled it tight with the platform raised, when I lowered the platform to cinch everything up the bottom strap actually slipped in the pressure clamps. Going to toss 2 ratchets on it before climbing in tomorrow. Set up over 3-4 scrapes, likely just young scrubs trying to figure out what to do. But about 50 yds further we founf ahat might have been a good sized rub. Still a bit puzzled whether it is or not, posted a few pics in the Public land thread in Bowhunting talk section. Up at 4am and hitting the woods with a little optimism in he morning. 4 point on one side restriction, but I'm looking for more. Really want a clean 10 Also bought another antlerless only tag, only going to take one doe if that from my Uncle's private land, but there's enough on this public land to take one or two.
I know I've been quiet, but I'm reading every post and posting on the Live From The Stand thread And Captain, the below made me pee laughing
Had these 4 come in Thursday : 3 really liked the beans 1 thought the beans where better on the first row
Going to get home an hour earlier than planned tonight. Alarm is set, see how I feel when it goes off. May hit the private land in the morning if I go. Curious about turkey and deer movement out there
I didn't make it out this morning. Could feel my shoulder last night and when I woke up this morning it was pretty unhappy. Think between hanging the stand and sticks Friday, putting on the ratchet straps yesterday and having to climb up and down 3 times took its toll. Try to limit use of it at work this week and let it settle down, can't take a chance on putting my season and job on the line. I'll be back at it this weekend. On a side note, my uncle didn't make it last night but my aunt was there. She said not many have been hunting so far, one small doe was taken opening weekend. Excited to finally get in there, they're not gonna know what hit them
So we finished combining our soybeans and corn on are farm today. With winds and temps so high I decided to go hang a couple more stands! The one ladder stand will probably be the one I kill a big buck otta this season if it happens close to home. Will post pics soon! On another note one of our hunting partners went up to our properties in Trempealeau County to check trail cams and make sure our campers are all ready cause after we finish cutting 80 acres or soybeans and 120 acres of corn we will be up north hunting every weekend. He want over to our one 17 acre parcel we will be building a cabin on come spring and to his arrival he found 3 tree stands 2 trail cameras 2 salt lick and a deer feeder. We have the property posted we contacted a a good friend the lives near the property that keeps an eye on it and said he had driven his atv through their Monday and there was nothing. We are going up this weekend to cut some trees and clear a drive way to the opening where the cabin is going and will be taking down all the stands, feeder and trail cams the salt licks will be stacked and a note will be placed stating that they are on private land they have illegally bated if seen on the land they will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. The property is posted. We have talked to the one neighbor that we are good friends with an said him and his family will be keeping a close eye on it and will call us ASAP if they see any suspicious activity. On our other property our food plots look great and are ready for us to come shoot some deer! As I have stated I'm not a big early season hunter. With this cold front coming through I will be a on the stand after working on the land this weekend! Sent from my arrow using Mathews
Wow, that sucks. Something as blatant as that, I think I would leave a not stating their equipment is at the local police department/conservation office awaiting them to claim it and no charges will be pressed by you at this time but a complaint with notice has been filed. I'd then take the items to whichever of the above and ask for posession if not claimed withing 30 days, sans the salt blocks. Should put an end to the trespassers and maybe give you some free eqyipment legally for your troubles.
That sounds like a good idea! We will put no trespassing signs with something along the lines of that written on them. Sent from my arrow using Mathews
