Lackluster sit. Got out there a bit later than I wanted. Before I got out of town I realized I had forgotten to get online and print out a parking permit for the public land. Wasn't far fr my brothers and didn't want to turn around. He didn't have a working printer so I just wrote all of the info on a piece of notebook paper along with printer wouldn't work Put it on the dash and hoped they would understand Got out there and the area I wanted to hunt already had two trucks there. Not knowing where they set up and not having a prehung stand, I decided not to trample in and potentially screw their hunts up. Drove around for a few and finally found a legal parking site with a standing bean field across the road. Figured it was better than an hour drive back home. Didn't see anything, but as I left and walked around a corner had a doe blow at me and bolt into the woods. Trying to talk myself into still going out tomorrow, was a long 4 hours standing on my feet tonight. Thought it looked good when I got set up though.
And to bed I go, 4:30 comes early. Blood will stain the bed of my truck in the AM. Hopefully, moght be a few other people hunting as well and I may het kicked to the curb again I'm more familiar with the private land though, i know where they move and when usually. I'll intercept all ninja style if need be
I suck, woke up at 4:30 and stretched. Blinked and it was 6:45, think working so many days the past month and a half is taking it's toll. Good thing is it's only 3 weeks to the rut. Not going to put any trail cams out this year, think I was laying down too much scent the last few years. This is the year, just need to get out there and make it happen. Think I'll cook up some steaks tonight to remind me what the end game is.
Deer season 2015 here we go! Good to be back in the stand again. And I didn't even forget anything on my first sit! Sent from my VS980 4G using Tapatalk
Pretty active evening up in da UP eh. 7 does, 3 fawns and two small bucks. I've had worse sits. Sent from my VS980 4G using Tapatalk
Just put in for Saturday off, I will definitely make it out this weekend at least once. Twice if nothing the first day. Hopefully the winds are better but have a feeling it will still be pretty windy with a cold front passing through Thursday. Would love to take my first deer with a bie on public land, but may have to resort to private.
I'll be out the next 2 mornings. Find morning hunting hard this time of the year but I have to hunt when I get the time.
The plan as it stands, at minimum a morning public land hunt Saturday. Told a coworker I'd get him out there for the first sit of the year, so I am forcing myself into a commited hunt. Will be sitting on cut corn this go around. Going to talk with him throughout the week, might see about hunting the morning and then scouting a bit and hanging stands for an evening sit. Have a LW Alpha 2 and an XOP Air Raid, figure I can take them both and use it as an enticement to make an all day event of it. He's in the market for a stand and might be able to sway him into buying the XOP, I got it and the sticks for free. Win win for me. Really not sure how my shoulder will fair but willing to give it a go. Worst case scenario I'll do 2 morning sits.
Holy crap , the rain has finally stopped here in my part of NC and there is actually some sun shinning ... I will be in a tree tomorrow morning ...
Well went and sat at a new chunk of land I got permission on and no more then 10 min after getting the stand hung and settled in the farmer shows up with the combine and starts choppin corn. Saw a doe with two fawns so far I'm just gonna sit it out and see if he pushes any deer towards my direction when he works closer towards me. Sent from my arrow using Mathews
Good luck, I'd be sitting that stand whenever the conditions are right over the next few days. Ag fields are something I want to hunt so bad, but my only option is public land and corn was harvested a few weeks ago. My uncles property I won't see a good buck until the rut, that's part of the reason I'm trying to stay away from it until at least Halloween.
Procrastination ends this weekend, KILL mode is in full effect, I'm not worried about ruining a public land spot, 15,000 acres has enough to make a few mistakes.
