Sunday will be my first sit of the year as well. Team 6 will be shooting up the leaderboard in no time! Sent from my VS980 4G using Tapatalk
We have a very strong storm sysetem moving in now. Saturday might be a rain out with high winds. Oh well its a long season.
Have to work Friday and Saturday. Not ruling out a quick trip to public land Saturday for an evening hunt, but Sunday looks good for a morning hunt. Picking up my permits after work and filling up the truck. Season opens in 16 hours and 25 minutes.
Well I'll be setting down the bow these weekend to pic up the shot gun to kill some ducks. Then not sure about next weekend might be filming a friends sons first hunt for the WI youth gun hunt so I'll see how the cards play out. But come mid October I'll be in the woods almost every day from then on. Not a fan of early season. Sent from my arrow using Mathews
She went approx. 100-120 yards into a thicket. She turned up hill where I lost blood and I kept looking down hill thinking she would have run down. And no blood going up hill. She had gone downhill the hole time then turned up to the honey suckle and cedar thicket.
Saturday isn't looking so hot right now. Winds are supposed to be gusting pretty good. Winds will be out of the NE which isn't real common. Sunday is still looking good though, a lot of options with a NE wind. Hopefully put another quick 50 on the board. Still not sure if I'll be able to climb a couple of the stands with my shoulder, pretty much ruling the Lone Wolf out this year.
Hey guys, Sorry for the infrequent updating ... Dad's been fighting the cancer thing and having a 600sq ft bakery built in the basement has been consuming my time and thoughts... Bow opened today and this morning I had a yearling at 10 yards but I am looking for something older...came out of the woods at 11 and there was a big ole doe with 2 fawns 60 yards from me...we both saw each other art the same time and had a 1 hour stand-off (OK, maybe it was 60 seconds but it felt like an hour ) she then went into the woods angle right to where my stand is ... On the way home, I saw deer in 3 different fields and after lunch, there were 2 in my field behind the house.. Wind is stiff and out of the NE which really limits me...I want to hunt behind the house, but the NE wind wont let me ...I had this 30 yards from my house a few weeks ago.... there were 7 bucks in the group ...4 shooters for me ..you can make a few out.. It has BEGUN! I am off tomorrow, but I am taking Dad for his final radiation treatment and having his last chemo disconnected... please pray that this is over...we will know after 2 months...they will do another PET scan to see if it's gone, once he is healed from treatment.
Looks like the weather might break the last 3-4 hrs tomorrow. I bet the deer will be up and moving and I will be able to slip in real quiet due to the soaked ground. 15mph winds--50 degrees. I dont ever remember a VA opener that cold. Best thing about tomorrow hunt is I cant remember the last time Ive had some free time to not work, take care of kids, or work on the house. I cant wait to be 20 feet high.
Thanks, guys. Dad is doing great...I wasn't expecting to deflate like I did once the appointments were over...decided with 25 mph winds and feeling so tired to take the wife out for dinner instead of going out...after dinner, I watched a small 8, a doe and a fawn, and a doe with 2 fawns in the field behind my house....damn NE wind I will be out tomorrow in big bucks land...
I hear you Tony. The let down on those type of things can really sap your mental strength. GOOD luck tomorrow!
Sheesh, you'd think I would change after a few years but...... never believe what I say, I procrastinate a lot Changing it up again, think I'm going to pull the trigger on an evening public land hunt. I've seen deer in standing bean fields the past 2 afternoons on he way home from work. No one in quality management here today so I should be off work around 9:30 to 10am. Still have quite a bit to do, need to get my permits amd wash my clothes but should be able to get out by 3:30pm. I've heard most, if not all, of the crops on this tract have been harvested already. Hoping the field I want to sit on was corn this year. I'll post up an image of it, have to switch over to tapatalk.
Here's a quick overshot of it. Love that the aerials are from winter. The lakes and ponds have ice on them, makes seeing things a bit easier. Topo's suck for this land or i'd post one up. North is up Winds out of the northeast. I'll be on the ground and somewhere in the vicinity of the ground blind icon. Figure anything coming out of the woods other than the SE section I should be undetected scentwise, with crossbow I should be able to conceal myself a little better than if isimg a compound Sounds good in theory anyway
