Few pics here of a possible shooter. I will need to see him live to make that determination. He is right on the edge of what I call a shooter in my neck of the woods. He is looking like a 3.5 year old in these pics, not sure if he is a big 7 or 8. Like I said I will have to see him live to make a firm decision. Dave
I guess I'm going out tonight or tomorrow morning for a practice run. Won't be hunting any of the prime spots just want to make sure I get all the gear ready when the time comes. The corn has been cut but the neighbor has beans planted. Who knows might get lucky and shoot one.
Hot hot hot !!!! Went out this morning and saw nothing. Went out this afternoon at 3pm was 94 degrees. Had 3 fawns then a doe come in right after shooting light faded. Had to throw sticks at them to get them to leave)))) Dave
Well fella's I am out in the morning here for a nice cool am hunt.....hope to stick one I have about 4 hours in the morning for a hunt thank the better half for that but hey I have a date with a certain 4.5 y/o buck!!!! Enjoy dudes and shoot smart!!!! Cheers Reese
Had a good and bad day checking the cams yesterday. My Moultrie I-40 (not even a year old), won't take pictures anymore, and one of my older Stealth Cams had the flash go out on it. Regardless, I had another nice bunch of bucks show up for the a snap shot. I was amazed by the amount of sign that is littered around the field edges. I can't remember a year where there has been so much sign on this place, and the pictures I have gotten thus far prove that the bucks are using it. Saw a few rubs and some early scrapes being worked. We logged some good portions of this farm 2 years ago, and it is just now starting to grow up brushy in those areas. I'm thinking that these bucks are starting to live here now, instead of just using the area to cruise through during the rut. Anyways, on to some more pics. Had a lot of the same bucks show up, but also a lot of new ones too. Here is another picture (although not a very good one) of the big boy with the flyer coming off his G-2. You can't see it in the picture, but I am pretty sure it is him. This 8 pointer is a new one to me. This buck was part of a bachelor group that used this portion of this bean field for the past few weeks. I have many pictures of him coming into the field. This is another buck from the bachelor group. I have a picture of him last year as a 2 year old, and I'm thrilled to see he made it through. His left side has a pretty cool split on his G-3, along with split left brow. This guy may not be a shooter, I would have to get a better look at him first. However, he still looks to be a nice buck, with a fork coming off his left G-2. I can't really make it for sure, but there might be some kind of junk going on with his left main beam. I think this next buck is one I nicknamed "Ugly" last year. He was only a 1.5 yr old, but had a funky looking 5 point rack (no brows). I passed on him several times last year, while also getting pictures of him nearly everywhere on the farm. He's not a shooter to me, but here he is.
Man i'm ready to put one down too! Next Friday afternoon I am heading out there and going right after that G-2 flyer buck. I know of a spot close to where I have pics of him that has a few oak trees and some persimmon trees. However, if one of those other bucks show up first, they will get an arrow.
Ok guys, The bad news first. We did not find the buck (). Rob spent the next day and a half searching in vain. Rain pretty much destroyed the blood trail and all sign, as I feared would happen. Rob was left with doing a simple grid ground search-he took Martyn, one of the Brits, with. They exhausted themselves. I am forever in debt for their efforts. The good news, I arrowed a 50 point doe when I got back to camp. I also helped Rob arrow a doe of his own. He got his the last day during the last hour of his hunt. I was excited for him. He has now officially completed a North American deer slam with archery gear. How cool is that? I won't go into the details of the elk hunt...will let individuals tell their own stories. But, everyone in camp had an opportunity to arrow an elk. One 5x5 bull was had. I'm gearing up for a road trip to S. Dakota this coming weekend. I'm taking Scott Bevins (NZ) and Grant Bowd (Aust.) for their shot at white-tailed deer. Scott, I'm putting a lot of stock in you! Arrow one of those monsters!
Awesome pics Scott!!! I am sure you will connect with one of them. Congrats on the doe Will!!!! Bummer about the buck tho I got out sunday am for a 3 hour sit, doe with twin fawns ( literally still had some spots on one of them) 1 ruffy and 8-10 squirrels nattering about me sitting in their tree.
That's some tough luck on the buck Will, but the season is early and I have complete faith that you will put some bone on the ground before it's all over with. However, congrats on a nice looking doe, and from what I have read you guys had a blast hunting these past few days. Reese at least your seeing some deer and getting some stand time in. Hopefully sometime this weekend I will be able to put some points up for us. The area I plan on hunting is a brushy draw that has some acorns and persimmons scattered about the ground. It seperates standing corn and soybeans, which I have pictures of bucks using both. Just need the right wind direction.
Well, congrats on the doe, Will .... sorry about the buck .... I look forward to see what you put down next
Grats on the doe Will. Sorry to hear about not recovering the buck, I had that happen last year, know the feeling. Goodluck with your future hunting plans. Dave
Sorry I couldn't recover that deer for you guys, especially seeing as how we're trouncing you, but he's still out there awaiting another arrow from Will next year.
Trouncing.....meh its still early brotha!!!! muahahahahahaha Congrats on your deer Rob!!!! Looks like you guys had an AMAZING trip!!! One day I shall get there lol Reese
Thanks for the work you put into helping Will, and also our team. We shall remember your efforts in our victory speech at the end of the contest. Oh yea congrats on your doe. The trip sounds like it was an awesome time.
Sorry about the buck Will. I think anyone who has bow hunted a while has experienced that awful feeling. Congrats on the doe and get back out there and put your hands around some horns. Clint
