Good fortune to everyone hunting this weekend! I'm taking a weekend off to spent time with the family. My daughter has a b-ball tourney...it'll be fun to thaw my buns on a bleacher...

I'm in the process of recounting my Alberta hunt. I hope to have that up by the end of the day.

PT, I love what you're doing to the other teams! LOL...keep it up brother!

Had a great time still hunting with my shotgun through the public land this afternoon. This is a much different way than how I was always taught to hunt around here, but I must say that I am begining to enjoy it more and more.

While I never got to take a shot, I did see 6 deer, and would of had a doe in the freezer had I not been looking for good trees to hang a stand in next fall:busted:. I was looking at a small field on top of a very steep ridge, and looked over about 20 yards away and a small doe was standing there looking at me. I saw her too late for a shot though.

I also watched 3 more does about 200 yards away, and also made a tough decision of passing a great 9 pointer at 120 yards. He was an awesome looking deer. Very wide, heavy mass, short tines, with a big split in his left G-2. He was walking the opposite ridge I was on with a doe, and I just couldn't get comfortable with the shot in the fading light.

Wanted to let my fellow team members know that I haven't given up yet. Plan to be back out this weekend. Saw 19 deer during my morning Saturday hunt but had to leave due to a bad wind. Got to see a nice buck fight though. That was pretty cool. Here's my brother in law's deer he shot opening of gun season on our property. This is the same deer I passed up a couple weeks earlier that worked a scrape and licking branch under my stand on my friends property. He hunted pretty hard with the bow the last 3 years without success so I guess I'll let it slide that he shot it with a gun. Good luck everybody that's still hunting and be safe.

Hey guys, wondering what bow everyone shoots. I am thinking of buying a new bow after the first of the year. I have always used Bear bows simply for the price. The last few years I have noticed they are creeping up in price to match Mathews, Bowtechs etc.

I am thinking of hitting the archery store to shoot a few, just want an idea what you guys shoot and why?

    I shoot a Mathews Switchback.

I've shot some other brands, and other Mathews models since, but I have not found a bow that I like more than the Switchback.

    Dave,

I can get you any PSE or Browning bow/product at dealer's cost. I will do the same for anyone on the team...that's the beauty of being a staff shooter. Let me know if I can help. The new PSE 2011 models are available (www.pse-archery.com)

I shoot a PSE Stingray, X-Force 80, X-Force Super Short, and an AXE 7. I would love to have a Vendetta XS.

I'm finally done with gun hunting for the year.

Since the dry wall crew was still finishing up on the parents house, I was free to climb into a stand.

I got to the farm a little late Friday afternoon, as work held me up. I went to the same area that I shot my doe with a bow, and ended up passing a little spike, and also saw 4 does at a distance.

Yesterday morning, I arrived to a different stand a little before first light. Around 7:30 I heard a deer blow to my south. I looked through my binocs and could just barely catch deer moving down the hollow from me. They continued to blow for several minutes as the ran around in a small area. After about 10 minutes of this, they started heading my way at a slow trot. I stopped the lead doe when she was 70 yards away, and my slug found it's mark dropping here right there.

My 3rd doe of the year now, but I still have some freezer room for a little late season archery hunting if time allows.

My cousin also killed an ancient 9 pointer. The rack would score in the upper 120's, but the buck's teeth were nearly gone, and he had several bald spots on his back from the fighting he had endured this fall. Overall, we ended up taking 12 deer on our farm, and my uncle's across the road so far this year, 3 bucks all in the 120" range, 1 fork buck, 2 button bucks, and 6 does.
