Well guys I've been trying. Been out last three days and nothing to show for it yet. Been seing plenty of deer just nothing I can shoot. Had 4 button bucks underneath my stand pushing a doe Sunday. Also had a 120 chasing a doe go by at about 5 yds. I guess my stands are a little too close to the trails. Tonight I had a 120 9pt with 2 kickers use the tree I was in to rake his rack. He was looking right up at me the whole time. He then made a scape. Finally he got next to my steps, looked up and made me. He never got too spooked or smelled me. Hung around for another 10 minutes. Awesome experience, the tree was shaking when he was rubbing his antlers. Was going to shoot this big doe but she had three fawns with her. I've never seen a doe with three before where I hunt. Seems to be a bumper crop of deer. I've never seen so many button bucks before either. Haven't seen any big boys yet. Thanksgiving is usually when the bigger ones show up on or place. Tony sorry to hear about your gear. That really sucks!
Tony, I am so sorry. I hope they catch those punks and you get your stuff back. I'm not sure what kind of backup gear I've got laying around, but if I come across something that I think may be of use, then you are more than welcome to it. Will, I LOVE the color RED. I don't plan on us losing that under our scorecard anytime soon either. kshunter, Keep after it bro. Sounds like you are in some good deer already. If you get us a doe and a buck down, then we are all going to be on this team again next year. As for me, I'm back at it again tomorrow and Wednesday. I'm taking my best friend with me. He just got started into archery this year, and I'm hoping to get him on his first deer. I told him he has a free pass to shoot brown and down for his first one (we usually try to let the younger ones walk). I did do a little scouting/still hunting with my bow, today after work. Found 2 areas, that I plan on hunting the next 2 afternoons if the wind is right.
Oh Scott dont be getting to proud now! As I left on the other thread I still have the FAT LADY locked up in my basement and she is not coming out untill I am ready for her to sing!
Clint, Watch your clock; you know the best use of your time. A doe is a quick and easy 50.... Get him!
Well nothing in range this morning. Heard two bucks going at it early on the other side of the river from me. Couldn't make out how big they were. Horns sounded heavy though. Forgot my rattling bag. Texted my brother in law later and he asked if I happened to see his rattling bag he dropped last time he sat that stand. There it was at the bottom. Wished I had know that sooner. Will be back at it this eve.
good luck KS... I got some day time pics of a nice deer over a scrape, thing is I rarely get to hunt this place and I have to be with my buddy when we do, he has school so almost never in the morning.... I honestly feel if I could hunt this place in the mornings I could score on this buck, or atleast see him. He's not huge, but exactly what I've been holding out for this year with my bow... Then this Big bodied guy showed up... how much you think he's pushing on the hoof?
Not to mention I've lost 2 good days of hunting so far... Heavy rain and Fog all day today, that's moving out in a big way with 35mph wind with 55mph gusts all day tomorrow...
Guys stay focused.....do NOT change the way your hunting and or the goals you have laid way for this season this year for the contest......there is plenty of season left fellas......relax and it will happen.......have faith boys
Well the day didn't start out too good. Where as I got away with everything yesterday, I was getting busted left and right today. Damn wind kept shifting directions. This evening I wasn't seeing much. Had a turkey that was looking like it could be dinner. Suddenly a doe came and pushed it out. I relized it was a bigger doe by itself. Just what I had been looking for. Unfortunately she headed straight underneath my stand and got downwind. She jumped back and circled the stand but I was able to stop her quartering away and nailed her. Since I don't have a camera with me (bad luck) I'll get pics tomorrow and post them probably around Turkey Day. So add another 50 pts to our score!
its the rut, Aaron...or at least pre-rut .... they got hard little pee pees ... a little wind won't bother them
I'd like to see your butt in a 10" pine with 55mph gusts.... :D And Congrats KS! We just keep adding on!
Hunt the ground ..... ok .. it's easy for me to say .. I'm done Way to GO, KS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Guys, this morning I had a buck at 100 yards, that would of secured this contest for us. A buck I have been calling Dropkick walked across a ridge. I got a good, long look through my binocs. He heard my grunt, but continued walking. He heard the snort wheeze, but still had better things to do. I waited for him to get out of sight, and I rattled, but again no response. After studying him this morning, he is an 8x6 with all his kickers. Me and my friend grabbed a quick bite to eat and then checked some trail cameras. I got a few new good bucks, and also one blurry pic of Dropkick chasing a doe. Oh and I found my binocs that I lost tracking my doe. I grabbed a hang on, and a pocket full of screw in steps, and set out for a thicket I hadn't been to in a few years. I bumped some deer walking in, but this spot was covered up with buck sign. I hung a stand, and I'll be sitting here in the A.M. I then sent Ross to what I thought was going to be my best stand, hoping that he would get a crack at his first deer. He saw some, but nothing presented a shot. I grabbed my Lone Wolf, and headed for a large bedding area. I was going to go right in on top of these deer in their bedroom. This was going to be a hang and kill type of hunt, I just had that feeling. My tree offered very little cover, but I was pretty confident I would see something good. While setting the stand up, I bumped 3 does out of their beds 40 yards away. Once I got settled, I hadn't seen anything. Around 5:00 I did some light grunting and estrous bleats, followed by a rattling sequence. Soon after, I saw that familiar rack headed towards me through the brush....Windy was going to pass by me at 10 yards. This is a buck I had some encounters with back in October. Not a giant, but a nice main frame 10 pointer, with a split brow. I drew my bow, and got ready. He was going to pass by right in front of me, I had the wind in my favor, and I knew I was going to get a shot. Then for some reason, he stopped. Once he looked the other way, I let down. I then hear a deer coming up the hill behind me, and turn to see another really good 125-130" 8 pointer standing 25 yards broadside. The buck was looking my direction, at Windy, so I didn't think I could get away with turning and shooting him. A few minutes later, Windy continued walking, and I drew again. BIG MISTAKE!!!!!!! The 8 pointer busted me moving, and with one single blow, both him and Windy were running away in opposite directions. For the 2nd time this November, I have had a buck under 20 yards, and not been able to get a shot off. However, on the bright side, I saw 3 shooter bucks today. Also, a front is moving through tomorrow night, so I should be in on some good movement again tomorrow if I'm lucky.
PT, I think I may have a heart attack sitting in a stand if I have too many more hunts like I did tonight. Here are the recent trail cam pictures from my last round of pulling cards. These first 3 have never been seen before. I would shoot each one of them in a heartbeat. And finally, the "Growth Buck" shows his face, just a day after I had my encounter with him. He hasn't been seen, or been in front of a camera since.
Some great posts guys. Scott, again you had me on the edge of my seat! Awesome! Clint, way to go buddy! Congrats on the doe!
congratz on the doe KS! and keep at it scott, i'll be in a tree all weekend and hopefully arrow a nice buck!
