Saw 6 tonight 3 fork horns and a mama with 2 little ones... they came from the other side(the does), (downwind) and seemed real skittish, they crossed the field in about 30 seconds and disappeared.

Saw many deer. 6pm had a doe at 35 yards to my left but no shot. 620pm Had a large bodied deer at 50 yards move down from my left, never could see it clearly but it appeared to be a big bodied deer.

10 minutes later 3 does and a fawn came in from behind me right under my stand. 2 of the doe knew something was up and walked fast up the hill, the other doe and fawn moved off to my left not giving me a shot. At 655pm I had a doe and 2 fawns come in off my right at 15 yards. Problem was it was thick in the edge of the creek, I did not have enough light to make a shot.

Creek stand seems to be a good spot, will let it sit until saturday morning before I hunt it again.

I'm going to try my best to get out on the public land Friday after work. I saw a lot of deer here last year, including a few nice bucks.

Reese-I was moving some stuff for the parents tonight and left my phone at home. Just walked in the door and saw your text. Sounds like your covered up in deer in this new spot though.

Well I finally made it out of my damn blind and back home. Have to move into it earlier in the day, pushed 4 out of the field gettin to the blind. Had them move back in though later, however too late for a shot once in range. At least I had Leanne in the blind with me, was neat for her to experience that many deer that close and nothing we could do about it. Should make for an interesting monday am hunt.
Scott - no worries man. I tried tapatalk to reply to PT, however came up with a cookie error....might have to reboot the crackberry again.
Best of luck guys this weekend. Its our rifle opener here and I have a buddy I am taking out for a spot and stalk in an area that holds a couple of bruisers ( he needs to redeem himself after his 112" oops last year )
I am going to let my cam cook for a couple more days before I check it to see if the bucks are using the ridge or not....I suspect they are, however the big guys are still nocturnal.

No shots opps on deer as of yet. Saw a few does over the weekend, no bucks.
Youth season going on this weekend, I may go up North, despite having to wear the dreaded blaze orange!

I'm hunting tomorrow afternoon, just not sure where yet.

If I get off early again, then I am going to hike in deep on the public land and set up on an awesome oak ridge. If not, then I am going to stick a little closer to the house and set up close to a bedding area that deer often use before heading out into a nearby cornfield.

Got out Wednesday evening, only saw one deer but it was a pretty good buck. He is on our hitlist as a borderline shooter, I passed on him but have some regrets. When he came out of the corn he was broadside around 35 yards, he stood broadside feeding for quite a while. His tines were on the light side but ok in length, once he stepped out of the shooting lane behind a tree he turned my way and I saw his width and then the regret set in. I tried to stop him in the next small lane I had but no luck. Here is a velvet picture of the buck now called Lucky.

85 degrees by 3 P.M. here. I'm still going to head out, but I'm not too confident I will see much tonight.

Heading out soon. Think I will set the fence row stand. Have not sat this stand so far this year. Goodluck to everyone hunting this evening and this weekend, be safe guys. (update) Just checked the evening winds after I made my post. Wind bad for fence row stand, creek stand would be good but I wanted to hunt it on Saturday morning. Think I will bust out the trusty climber and setup at the woods/swamp pinch point, wish me luck))))

Holy cow!!! 2 fawns rolled by the stand slowly eating acorns at approx. 520pm, then I had 4 does come in at 640pm and start feeding on acorns, They were 20 yards out. Then I hear some walking up on the hillside about 2 minutes later and there he stood in all his majestic glory !!!!!! The 10 pointer I have seen once when hanging stands this summer. I ranged him at 37 yards but simply could not get a shot.

I did not want to shoot one of the does for fear of freaking this buck out and him leaving the area. About 10 minutes after shooting light the buck wondered off then the does 5 minutes later. Left my climber on the tree, will hunt it again tomm. morning in the hope that the 10 pointer or one of his brothers come back through the same way to bed in the swamp in the morning. Oh and my guestimate of age and size....4.5 year old......mid to upper 140's. Definitely an exciting encounter !!!!

Your going to meet up with him again Dave. Hopefully this time he plays along a little better.

I had 2 bucks in bow range tonight. One was a little 6 pointer that came through about 5 yards away at 6:00, and then at 6:30 I saw a deer standing about 10 yards behind me. I first thought it was a doe, but then I saw the little spikes sticking up. Back at it again tomorrow afternoon.
