    Awesome bird indeed ;)
Well boys, I was so close today to a stud and blew it :( I didnt get in last night until 1.00 am from a retirement party for a bud, and when I arose at 5.50 am it was raining so I decided to sleep in. I decided to do a late morning/mid day hunt instead after the rain quit. I set up in a spot that I have taken my last two birds. I sat down at 9 ish and as soon as I called I was cut off from a Tom about 70 yards behind me :) I shut up and he gobbled all morning but wouldnt budge. I then threw everything but the kitchen sink at him and he did get within 40 yards guessing, just couldnt see him. At one point I heard a purring beside me in the brush and thought this is it, they are emerging on the old coal mine haul road that is now all grown up. The birds use this mid day alot ;) Well after 4 hours and all was quit I decided to call it a day  I sliped ever so quiet toward the deaks and trying to see down the old road bed, after deciding the coast was clear I took 1 more step and bam off goes the biggest Tom I have ever seen in my life  He was a mere 34 yads from the Deaks but behing a honey suckle patch where I couldnt see him  He was comming in silent and I blew it  If anyone has tried to text me and I didnt respond :D its because my phone decided to not let me send or recieve text  I have to get that fixed ;)

Sounds like a good hunt Crick. You might have blow it but at least you weren't stuck a work like me:(

You'll get him soon enough. Good luck this weekend guys. I'm counting down the days (20) until I head to Kansas!

Going to be sticking some fish this weekend

We've got rain in the forecast all weekend :(. I hate turkey hunting in the rain because the turkeys never seem to cooperate, and usually go dead quiet. It might be a good weekend to sleep in a little later and do some afternoon hunts. I guess I'll just have to see what the weather actually ends up doing.

UNBELIVABLE :( Another tough luck day. It was raining this morning and I dont use pop ups, my son had it anyway :D I brought one of those tree umbrellas in camo, strapped it on, and laid some brush on top of it. There was absolutly no gobbles this morning and I decided to go into ambush mode with out decoys or calling. I just knew that this kind of day that the birds were not going to cooperate. I had a Hen come by first then an hour later I see 2 Gobblers comming my way down the old grown up road bed. I drew well ahead of time and held on my opening. The first Tom was 10 yards away and 2 steps from the opening when he bolted taking the other with him  This is what I think happened. It had quit raining and I was going to take down the umbrella down but got lazy and didnt  Like I said, the top was brushed in but I think the Tom seen the bottom underside and spooked :( 2 more steps damit

Just reporting this mornings efforts. Decided to hunt behind house as there were Birds in the field yesterday evening, and I know where they roost every year, so after dark last night I went back, and refreshened one of my blinds with some new pine bowes and brush on the field edge. As expected one was gobbling just over the water in the pine thicket all morning. Two Hens showed up that I watched from at least 1,000 yards and made it to the Deaks. One was a bearded Hen that I have seen since last year. Two Toms Gobbled to my left and made it to the field but skirted my Deaks since the Hens had faded back behind them  The other Tom was still Gobbling behind me but never showed. Now 3 Jakes showed and did come to the Deaks but eventually followed the two Toms around with the Hens. They all eventually left so I came home and ate breakfast only to look out the back door and the Tome and Jakes were headed back toward my blind  I hurried and drove around the block and hit the gated access road through our lease that goes near my blind, but the birds were already past it, and headed to another field just off our lease. I took off and treid to get ahead of them and did but it was again the Jakes offering me shots  The Toms headed toward where another Guy was hunting, that has been stopping by my house from up state. I thought he was gone as his deaks were, but he was still there when I heard a BOOM, and was shocked to see that he took every bit of an 80 yard shot with a skatter gun  The birds flew up and were gone  but the Jakes again came to me  Those birds were already tough to hunt and now they will be tougher. Ill not hunt back there in the morning but go else where. Im packing a lunch tomorrow expecting a long haul day. Good luck guys ;)

We're going in stealth mode. We make it look like we all suck and haven't killed any birds, then post them all on the same day, and overwhelm the competition lol. Actually.... my excuse is that I suck! I didn't have any luck this past weekend with the crappy weather. With all the clouds/wind/rain, the birds would gobble on the roost, and then not say another word once they flew down. I'll be hunting with strictly bow for the remainder of turkey season now though. Sorry to hear about the bad luck crick!

Welp, the weekend is rapidly approaching and I'll be back out and at it again. It's supposed to be kinda crappy on Friday/Friday evening, but the forecast is for sunny skies on Saturday and Sunday. Hopefully I can finally get a plan to come together. My dad was able to get off of work a couple of mornings this week due to the recent rain, but he said the turkeys have been going off in a different direction than they usually do and haven't been using our land much. I guess I'll just have to play it by ear and see what happens. Hopefully I can get one down and widen our lead a bit ;)

Last weekend I didn't really get a chance to get out much. I had a 10 page paper due on Monday that I kinda put off until the last minute :D. My dad was able to get a bird killed with the boomstick though. I'll be back at it this weekend, and hopefully make it out both mornings. I have finals next week but I've only got one on Monday so I should be alright.
