We were actually set up on a stock dam when we saw the previously mentioned buck. This sever drought is making these old bucks fairly reliable customers at the water holes.
I wanted to. Perfect doe no fawns under ten yards on film sigh. But it was so warmout and a weeknight. But the main reason, this is where all my shooters are and i really don't want to disturb the area till i've hunted it a few times.
Gotcha ... I have such a hard time getting an adult doe in front of me .... fawns and yearlings, no problem ... but a good 2 1/2+ year old doe give me fits during bow season ... I usually extract my revenge during gun season tho
Blah Blah Blah...................heard this story last year. You are not Hexxed...............just get out there, stay positive and you will shoot a doe. Team #6 do not fall his whiney boy stories...................hold him to the fire and make him hunt)))) Luv ya Tony Dave
I am heading out in the morning ... rain is coming in the afternoon, so depending if it is raining hard, I am going to stay home and nurse this cold .... I am worried about even going out when I can't stop coughing ...
Tony don't even think about it buddy just lay some deer down you got this good luck man Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk 2
I hear ya Tony i think the past 4-5 years i actually see more bucks than does. You notice any difference the past few years?
Totally...from one stand I saw at least a dozen different yearling bucks each of the last few years ... and button bucks galore...two or three years ago it seemed like every doe had twin buck fawns in tow So this morning as some of you know I saw the blonde raccoon again ...no deer ... this afternoon I went out again and the wind was straight W according to the windmills ... couldn't hunt the stand I wanted, so I did a little scouting, putting on a couple miles ... went up in a stand ... got a call ...tenant issues..,.wife stressed ... had to get down and go take care of it .... I'll be at it in the morning...
I scouted a new area and will be hunting tomorrow evening. Saw 12 does just driving and glassing. Having a cool front moving through that almost feels like fall. Played golf in 82 degrees yesterday. It was 65 today and 57 at 7 pm tonight. High of 54 tomorrow. Got a good north wind blowing so I may have to go whack a few stripers on the fly rod tomorrow morning first. We'll see! Good luck all.
Hunting, golf, stripers on a fly rod... That's a couple of good days! I'm heading to the cabin tomorrow. I'm going to take my climber out and try a new area. Right across the road from us was clear cut for the most part this summer. I see quite a few deer moving through there so I'm going to try to find a staging area or set up in a spot where I have a good view of where the deer are coming from. The only buck I've seen on cam this year was a fork so I'm excited to try a new area out. Goal is still to shoot a doe in NH but seeing some more buck activity would be nice. I'll check in Tuesday. Good luck this weekend fellas.
Woke up to the alarm .... looked outside ... pouring rain .. stll sick....went back to bed. I will be out for tonights hunt ...
Met a young man when we were scouting Friday night who was seeing deer but they were avoiding his pop up blind and skirting him about 80 yards away. He said they were walking by "a big tree" and thought about moving his blind over there. I asked him if he has a tree stand and he said he's been a gun hunter for years and this is his first year hunting with a bow. He hadn't hunted out of a tree before. We told him we would hang a stand for him on Saturday if he wanted and he was really excited. We met Cotey about 1:30 pm and hung a stand in "the big tree" that turned out to be a pecan tree with wild grapes growing around the bottom. No wonder they deer were walking around that tree! :D We attached a safety rope with a prussic knot for safe climbing, gave him lessons on tree stand hunting and safety and headed to our stands. Just at dark my buddy got a text from Cotey saying he shot a doe and needed help. He was one excited young man, and we were thrilled to have been able to help him. He saw 15 does and a 12 pt buck that didn't come close enough for a shot. I on the other hand got in a stand yesterday about 3:30 pm and hunted til dark...nothing. It was a cool, overcast evening with a light wind. It was the first time in this stand and I was pretty excited about it. My buddy had 3 fawns with does under his stand and another deer that came in behind him and spooked. Maybe my new stand is a morning stand...not sure. Finally, on the way home I got a text from a friend who finally killed "One-eyed Jack" who scored 181 inches. I get pics as soon as I can.
Well, it's official. I'm a married man. Had a wonderful wedding and reception and got really drunk. Time to switch back into hunting mode. I still have a couple days off, so I'll be back in the tree tomorrow. I'm ready to see some antlers.
Congrats Snake. Not much to report for the weekend.Saturday passed a small half rack and had a doe and fawns about 60 yards.Had stuff to do sat mid day so only had a hour to hunt the evening sat behind the cabin nada. This morn got into my best stand extra early Had deer walkin around but never got a glimpse of one.Hit the grunt tube once and insantly two deer responded one upwind sounded like he was tearin up a tree the other downwind b-lined for me got about 35 yards and winded me.This area is pretty thick so unless there 20-40 yard i can't see em.Anyways i know there there just a matter of time.
Congrats, Snake! Hey guys, just a reminder to put the DATE and TIME of kill when you post the deer in the scoring thread or it won't count. This has been a public service announcement :D
Congrats Snake!! Maybe the good luck from the wedding will carry over to the tree stand. As long as you don't mind 2nd place, you're good to go :D
