LOL Mark! I wont give up .... I gotta tell ya ... I am so dialed in... I want to get out there and kill a deer so bad ... I wonder if any of our boys are hunting this weekend?
I hunted this morning in SW Minnesota. Saw a bunch of does with fawns and two old does without any fawns, which I thought was kind of wierd. Down here we only get one tag all season long, archery - muzzle loader so I'm going to hold out for a decent buck....for a while anyways. But, I'm headed back to SD tonight. The opener is next weekend out there so, with a little luck, i'll be able to at least fill my doe tag.
I've been hunting all weekend. Seen does and young bucks, but I'm waiting til next weekend for a doe at our other farm so I can use a bonus tag. We will have points soon.
So it sounds like Team 6 will make our mark on the scoreboard a little later that most, but when we hit it, we will be putting up tons of points in a short amount of time ..... kinda funny ... that is exactly how Team 6 did it in the 2010 Contest
I'm sure you were getting itchy for somebody that would throw around a little smack talk with ya! I'm here, just been really busy with buying a house, luckily im getting a chance to do a little bit of scouting and we will be closing on the house sept 24th which gives me a week to get my act together, set some stands and sure up some stuff. The house happens to be in pretty good farm country in the best county in our state for deer numbers so I hope to make some good friends My realtor just told me the builder has 60ac. just up the road, so im gonna sweet talk him at the closing! I'll hopefully be a little more active around here once i get some quiet time 20' up! I would sport the Avatar with pride!!! Im starting to think Silent but deadly was the right name, we come silent but they'll know we've been here!
Just finished writing a letter that I will be sending to an adjoining property owner of the condo that I am buying, This guy owns roughly 150 acres posted tight, surrounded by river on 2 sides, his house, and corn fields. Google earth images show what appears to be an area of about 30acres that was logged roughly 20 years ago, and another 10-15 acres that looks like some wicked softwood bedding area the rest is mostly rolling hardwoods with some steep ravines and a cut-line that goes through the middle of the property for power lines. I'm really hoping to be able to gain access to it considering it will be in my new back yard! I would consider knocking on the guys door, but its one of those situations where his yard has one of those fancy fences all the way around and a gated driveway... i dont think they want visitors haha. Figured writing a nice letter was my only shot!
Can't wait to check my camera this Friday. I've got it sitting in the back corner of a 7 acre food plot with 6 inch tall beans. This will be my first year of having a piece of private property to hunt in IL so I'm pumped about the opener in a couple weeks. The even better news is that starting the last day of September I have 13 days off in a row.
Snake that sounds like a sweet little hole, hopefully those beans will stick around for some late season fun as well. My food plots didn't come to fruition this summer as work, and buying the condo just took up all of my time. But my grandfather did get into a couple spots that I have hunted in the past with the brush hug so I should have some green grass to sit over as well as 10 acres of wild apple trees that are just simply a deer magnet considering the lack of other food sources besides brows in the area. Do we have any guys hunting yet?
I'll be hanging stands in Oklahoma this weekend. Season opens Oct 1st. I've also been invited to hunt with a friend that has a massive 8.5 year old (documented by photos) that is a real freak. I just want to get something on the board. First doe in range gets it! :D
October 1st here .... while Jerry was killing antelope, we over here have been taking out our impatience on squirrels ... anything to get in the woods and hunt! Like I said before, I will be out a lot this season as I get a ton of PTO, AND I have a 4 day work week, AND my schedule is whatever I want it to be
Got permission to hunt 100 acres over the weekend. Half of it is hayfield other qaurter mature woods other quarter thicket and overgrown apple orchard. Hunted this property a few years about ten years ago not sure why i stopped hunting it i always saw deer. There was another guy bowhunting it and he was set up in the thicket right were i would like to be so i never intruded on him and kept my distance (wish all hunters would do that). About three years ago my best area got invaded. Guy put a stand sixty yards from mine and also sits in my stand. Never seen him in it but would set things up to see if they were changed and they were even took the bottom tree peg out once and this guy was nice enough to put one back in for me just unreal. Anyway going to scout new spot this wwekend and hopefully hang a stand.
That sucks ... but he might be inadvertently put you on a monster at the now undisclosed location :D So I have a basket 8 pointer in my backyard that I have seen a few times .... I am trying to hold out for a 100"+ ... if this guy tempts me too long, I may have to knock my 100" goal down 15 or 20 inches
Tony, sounds like we have the same schedule. I have Fridays off and tons of PTO. Plan to hunt almost the whole month of November and a lot of October. I'll text you from the stand once I get in the woods in a couple of weeks! Cannot wait!!!
Checking in I haven't checked in yet. It has been crazy for me with spine n weather change. Like being in a constant fog lately from lack of sleep with the pain. Today is my first day not having a kid with me so have a little bit of time to get some things done. Name is Mark D. I have been hunting my entire life and 40 know. I live for deer and pheasant season. Last few years with injury has been hell and missing most of seasons totally. Hoping to get out and just enjoy myself for a bit. Aw who am I kidding, I am ready to whack something! I'll be hunting mostly new property to me in IL this year. I got in on a lease with guys who have had the property for 38 years for duck & deer. Good people and more concerned about helping then sabotaging each other. Thats a nice change. Only one other bow hunter so hoping to finally have a good season and not loose any stands this year either. All my stands are up. Food plots were just starting to come in very nicely last week when I took family shooting at lease. I already have some nice tracks going through em.
