"Nookie Green" is safe to google...

My first few days of bear season were unsuccessful but it was great to be in the woods. I have one bear coming in after dark every night. Unless more bears show up he will probably stick to the late night pattern.

I checked my cams by the cabin and there are a decent amount of does that come in regularly and there is a small fork buck. As I said, my goal is to fill the freezer with a NH deer or two.

2 months from today I will be sitting in a stand in KS... it can't come soon enough.

Also, "Nookie Green" is safe to google... I think I am going to use it as my Camo color of choice next season.

Well fellas, I struck out in Wyoming... except for antelope. I killed a 67 inch buck on August 24 and deer season opened Sept 1. There were some changes made to the area we hunt which really messed things up; the short version is I only got to hunt that particular area one night. I passed on a doe with two young fawns, two spikes and a doe that came in after it was too late to see my pins. I saw several deer between 125 and 140 inches and a brute that would go 160 easily... none were near my stand. I saw about 50 deer that first night. We hunted mule deer in the mornings and saw no less than 20 bucks over 120 inches and 7 or 8 that were easily 140 to 170 inches. I never had a shot at any over 115 but didn't want to use my tag for that deer as I was waiting on a whitetail or a big muley. On another piece of property I had a 120 inch whitetail at 45 yards but he came in at a trot and never slowed down. Barely had time to range him much less draw my bow. One of my friends who lives in Wyoming filled his doe tag.

I saw over 100 buck mule deer. It was all spot and stalk hunting as they don't pattern like whitetails in that area and it was tough due to the ground being so dry. We saw elk, moose, mule deer, whitetails, antelope, coyotes (10), red fox (4), raccoons (10), and too many turkeys to count. We saw pheasant, chukars, blue grouse, sage grouse and a host of waterfowl. It was like Wild America at times and I loved it! I would conservatively say I saw 500 to 600 deer, 100 of which were buck mule deer and 50 buck whitetails. It was an awesome trip and I managed to get in six rounds of golf! :)

I still have my tags and may be able to do something when I go back for Thanksgiving. I also have tags for Oklahoma and Kansas so I'm still working on putting some points on the board.

Wow. Sounds like an awesome time. Congrats on the antelope. I would love to take one someday. Really beautiful animals. I know I haven't posted in a couple days, been pretty busy with wedding plans and work on the house. I did manage to go and check my cameras today. The bucks have completely disappeared. Went from having a big bachelor group containing a 155 and 175 to nothing in a matter of about a week. They get hard horned and things change dramatically. We'll see what happens next weekend. Season opens here at home and I'll be in a tree all next weekend. I can't wait.

Snake, antelope hunting is a lot of fun. Either from a blind or spot and stalk. Sounds like you have some dandy deer on your property. You've got to be excited about that.

NYMark, that is a really nice buck. Hope you get a shot at him for sure.

Haha. I just watched the videos of those bucks Mark. I love seeing things like that. I was laughing because I noticed the deer are doing the same thing in every video. They are constantly testing the wind and trying to smell everything they possibly can. Just goes to show how alert the older bucks are. They are wary of everything. Just goes to show why they get that old.
