Sounds like a lot of us haven't hit it too hard yet but good luck to you guys going out this weekend!

I finally get to go next week I'll be hunting Monday & Tuesday[maybe Wednesday as well;)] I do a lot of "recon" hunting this early where I'll set up in low impact areas and just watch larger areas to get a better feel for what's going on. We've had a week of rain and warm temps but Sunday is supposed to be the end with some cooler/drier weather moving in. Hoping bucks will be starting to get a little more active with rubs and scrapes and if so I plan on breaking the cams back out. Even though I'm excited about the middle/end of October I will definitely be trying to stick something antlerless to hopefully contribute 50 points.

I'll try to post some pics up of some of my set ups, my marsh stands are pretty picturesque(sp?)...lol.

Sorry I've been out of the picture. Took on a new role at work and it's killing me. Worst time of the year, huh?

Anyway, Thursday before heading into the office, this guy shows up in the back yard....

I've seen him several times in the evenings and named him Fathead. He's got a big round face/head when you see him from the front. So last night, I went out for the first sit of the year. Just before dark he showed up. He stopped to eat and then started working his way in. Just then, my son and his friend come into the back yard to play and he locked up and watched them until dark. I don't think he would have made it to me but it allowed me to sneak out well after dark without scaring him. I did manage a few seconds of video in the fading light...

Well guys not much to report. Havent been out since last Sunday. Been kind of busy with work and helping buddy farm the ground I hunt. We got all the corn out and the beans are started. Also put some rye in so there will be that and the clover that's already there for "food plots" ha. Havent checked cams in awhile either so probably do that this week and move a few to some of the fields that's been harvested. Should be able to get out maybe a day this week or this weekend for sure.

    Good luck fellas.

Well fellas, didn't do any hunting over the weekend as my wife and I spent the weekend with the brother and sister-in-law and my niece and nephew. Good times for sure...now that I'm back will be hitting it hard Thursday-Sunday....my father has had 2 different shooters for him (both 8's he thinks) at our one river property we don't hunt much, from his description the one is probably a shooter to me as well so may go after him sometime this week.

The deer are absolutely pounding the acorns right now...our swamp property food plot isn't even getting traffic due to it...and man are the acorns falling! Good luck everyone!

I sat at my grandma's for a couple of hours Sunday evening, but didn't see anything outside of some squirrels and a bunch of wood ducks on the pond. I drove around her block and noticed all the crops, mostly beans, were still in the fields. I suspect that and the warmer weather is to blame for the lack of deer sightings.

I am really starting to miss the property I used to hunt that was owned by my f-i-l's buddy. He had to sell it after falling on hard times. It wasn't the greatest spot, but I saw deer almost every time I was out there. Sitting for hours and not seeing anything makes you appreciate a place like that. I've thought about sending a letter to the new owner to see if he'd let me put up a stand.

I haven't got to many chances to hunt so far this month. My mom had a birthday party this month, my daughter turned one so we had a party for her, my oldest daughter will be turning 4 this month and then halloween so im trying to sneak a day in there but most of my hunting will probably be in november which rut should be getting into full swing soon. I was going to get out today but rain came in and but a stop to my plans.

Went out yesterday afternoon since ended up gettin off work early. First sit of year in my ladder stajd thst over looks corn field. Its usually a pretty good evening stand. Ended up seeing about 10 or 11 deer total. All does except one little spike. Nothing close enough to shoot but still a good night. Did have a squirrel come withing about 3 feet of me though so that waskinda neat. Either really had my ninja stealth goin or he didn't really care about me being there. Was gonna go this morning but woke up to rain so stayed right were I was.

Went all day yesterday on the Easter Shore and the rain finally ended. We've been on a 10 day stretch. Unfortunately the temps didn't drop much, still supposed to be 70-80 the next few days. I saw some turkeys and let 50 Pts slip right by me at about 12 yards. I simply wasn't ready and she caught me snoozing(literally). By the time I got the bow up she had disappeared into a sea of waving corn stalks(15-20 mph winds all day). My buddies dad stuck a big doe(130lb) yesterday evening so it wasn't a complete bust. Took the kids to school this a.m. so no hunt. Didn't feel like driving too far to hunt this evening so I'm staying local. The area I live in is va beach/chesapeake and unlike all the other counties in va bow isn't in, gun season opened Oct1, it goes out Nov. 30 then our bow season starts Dec. 1. So this evening I'm shotgun hunting, I could bow hunt it but the spot I'm hunting is right on a swamp and I prefer them not running off. And I love hunting with my shotgun too :)

Iv been getting out quite a bit lately, mostly evening hunts, but this year is probing to be a challenge. Acorns are literally everywhere you look. Iv usually got at least 1 down by now. Just gonna keep plugging along till I get em figured out

While I've had at least a doe by me each hunt and my father has seen a couple bucks he deemed shooters I'll be honest it's the slowest and worst season to date for us. Nothing is moving according to the 10+ cameras like we've seen every year prior...however I feel it's set to explode here shortly. Cold weather has moved in....hay is going to start dying....can't wait!

Glad to hear everybody is getting the chance to hit the woods for the most part. Ty I believe it is a matter of time for you!! I have a good feeling that you will be putting a real nice one down here soon. As for myself I finally have a trip to my cabin planned for the weekend. I am really anxious to get over, check my cameras (it's been about 4 weeks), and sit in a tree. Weather is looking to be gradually declining as the weekend approaches, calling for chance of snow Saturday and a high of 41, so I will be out a good part of the day!

Hope everyone is having a great season!

This has me curious seeing as how the main property I hunt is mostly hay fields. Does that push them back into the woods? There is some clover in the fields, but I thought it stayed green pretty much year round.

I realized that I forgot my tree strap by my stand, so I ran out there to get it last night. I checked my trail cam while I was there. I had a possible shooter (he was moving so the picture is a bit blurry) pass by my stand during first shooting light yesterday.

Also, plenty of deer on the move. I saw around a dozen deer scattered in a few bean fields driving to and from the spot.

Went and pulled cards out of cams today. Nothing really to brag about as far as bucks showing up, did get some interesting pics of bobcats though. we knew we had one running around and have laid eyes on once three years ago but I've never caught one on camera. So thought that was pretty cool. Not something you see around here all the time. I made a thread if you wanna take a look in the trail cam section but here's my attempt at putting the link ha.

Good luck to everybody and hopefully we have some luck this weekend. I know I'll be out and with the weather getting cooler it may get the big boys moving.

I'm going to have to go by the bow shop this evening. I got the bow out last night to shoot a couple of arrows and all my shots were low. After the last issue with my string stretching I wanted to get things checked out. It could be that my sight was bumped, but I figured I better have the shop owner check it out to make sure all is well.

If I have to get a new string put on, hopefully he can get it done tomorrow. The weather this weekend looks like it might be a good time to hit the woods.

Took the bow for a walk today around 9am to check trail cameras. Same few bucks still hanging out like normal.
Fathead was out just before dark (see my previous post with the video I got of him) and Lionel Richie appears to have broken off the spike coming out of his base. another week later, Big Daddy is still MIA. Haven't seen him in 3 weeks now.

I plan to hunt Saturday evening. The next two nights plus Sat morning are all for hockey for my son.
