Looking good fellas. We just got back in town from an annual family camping trip. Was scheduled to be off Tuesday & Wednesday but we are being recalled to work and all scheduled leave is cancelled. If you miss a day during the shutdown after being recalled you don't get paid so I'm probably not going to get out now until the beginning of next week(daughters bday is this sat & no Sunday hunting in VA).

It's all good though I'll definitely appreciate my time in the stand a little more this year. Good luck and be safe.

No luck tonight guys as the deer are very nocturnal. I think things are gonna really get interesting after the first frost. I will keep u all posted.

Pretty slow night until about a hour before shooting light was gone. Had pretty much given up and was gonna pack it in, grabbed my bow amd just got arrow back in quiver and heard something to my right. Ended up being two does running around. They stopped and ended up walking about 15 yards behind my tree. There ended up being a fork horn chasing the two doe. He followed behind my tree and headed toward the clover field to the left of me about 30 yards. He stopped right I'm front of my trail cam so there should be some good pics of him. I turned to look back to where they had came from to see four more does walking down the trail. Next thing I know I looked down to see s good sized doe coming toward front of my stand. To my surprise she had a fawn in front of her that was right below my stand. They both emded up right below me so I just sat still watching. It was kinda neat to watch them mess around and the big doe, I'm assuming it was mother and fawn, kind of chase the little one around and even head butt it a couple times. As I was watchimg them heard something else moving from the way they had came and it was another big doe. She joined the other two and the three of them were within 20 yards of my stand until dark. The last doe that showed up was a big mature doe and gave me several shot opportunities, bit through all the action I never tried reaching for my bow and was pretty content to just watch. Kept hoping there'd be a bigger buck following the group that had just came through but one never showed. It was still a pretty good night in the stand, never got busted by any of the deer and it was pretty cool to just watch.

Ha ha yea trust me Jeffrey it took a lot of restraint to not let one go on her. She gave me every possible chance, actually hung around long enough and I thought to myself "screw it, I'm shooting." But like it always goes when she went behind tree and gave me chance to grab bow she turned and made her way out to join others in clover field.

Went out last night hoping that the cooler weather and rain finally stopping might have the deer on their feet. Plus, my first bow kill was last year on 10/6, so I was hoping that might play into my favor. I saw one deer sneaking through the woods, but it was well out of range. It was very windy, which I'm thinking might have had them hunkered down. I did see around a dozen deer on my drive from the property to the highway, three of which I had to honk the horn so they'd go back to the woods. They just stood at the edge of the road and stared at me. Maybe my theory about the wind wasn't quite right.

I'd like to publicly think gri22ly for the maps. That is a true sign of a good team member when a complete stranger takes the time to do that for another stranger. I'm hoping that will help me in my pursuit of my first buck this season.

As for the spot, the more I have thought about it I don't mind making it an evening only spot. Sleeping in isn't that bad of an idea and thinking back to last year, most of the buck activity/movement I saw around the seeking/chasing phase was in the afternoon/evening.

When I knew gri22ly was gonna help ya I know I figured you were good, he pointed out a lot of what I had thought as well! I too love some days knowing I'll be able to sleep in until after morning movement and slip in around 10am-noon during the rut :)

We do have a great group of guys for sure!

The only thing I would add is I did catch some of gri22ly's entrance routes if hunted in the morning appeared to possibly go off your property, make sure you got permission if you do those approaches. :)

I'd only use the one that is on the property. I'd need a nap by the time I made it to the stand if I took the other routes.

Your more than welcome goose. There's really not much to. In a nut shell, out side the seek/chase/breeding phase. Hunting in the morning, you must keep in mind the wind, primary food and bedding, in that order. Hunting in the evening, you must keep in mind the wind, bedding and primary food, in that order. Entrance, exit and stand site revolve around these factors.

Good luck luck getting another buck down Pat.

Spent all day working then when got home helped buddy start to take out some corn. The lne field we got done this weekend will have rye planted so that'll attract some here late season. Last year it was a honey hole. The other spot we moved too is where one of my stands is so hopefully by this weekend I'll be using it. Usually a good evening spot, but last year it was where I saw decent bucks cruising in the morning. So we'll see what it produces this year, probably be moving one of my cams there once its harvested.

Well guys I was finally able to sneak or of work a little early and get out in the woods (albeit behind my house). Not expecting much but it is definitely nice being out. I have a few small bucks running around so we will see.
