Well guys, finally seeing bucks on their feet and moving more. As normal the younger ones seem more antsy but got a couple bigger ones moving on this last per-season cam pull.

Do have one to add to potential hit list, at the swamp property we got images of a buck I'm coining Rocket Man. This buck has growths on him, one which has taken out his right eye (non-reflective at night) and behind his left ear. He's not the largest buck out there but knowing that his future could get rougher with the sight issues and possibly getting worse I'd probably fling an arrow at him, besides it would make for a very interesting mount. Here's some pics of him:

With the ridiculously warm temps, I'll probably only hunt tomorrow morning and it may or may not be in a buck only stand...two stand locations for morning I've already decided will be potential doe whackin stands this very first weekend knowing I can let the woods calm down still if I do.

Good luck to all whose seasons start...I'll have a message blast with consolidated updates as I remember them here in a bit.

I'll be heading out tomorrow, mainly just because I always go opening day but its supposed to be a litle warm. This weekend outta be good though, there's a front supposed to move in and drop some rain. Think temp only on 60's too but haveta see if actually plays out that way.

I'm going in the morning before work so hopefully a big ole doe comes through so I can surprise her wit the rage. I got a quiver full but all I nd is one good shot to the pump station. If the hitlist 8 walks out then its decision time so I wanna wish all my teamates a good opener tomorrow.

This morning couldn't have started better. I was a little late getting out of the house. I realized I forgot my boots halfway to the property, but luckily I had a backup pair in the truck. I had a deer bolt out of the bean field as I drove down the drive to my spot. I jumped about every deer on the block as I was walking through the hay field on my way to the stand. I've seen nothing but squirrels in the three hours I've been here. Oh well, it's better than sitting at work.

I'll be soliciting opinions from the team on a better entry plan once I get home.

Well had two does come in behind me and got uneasy before moving off back where they came from, the heavier than normal air (fog), fact they walked on my entrance trail, and bad wind for that approach all pretty good indicators of what happened there...oh well not really looking to get a doe at that property yet anyways and atleast they didn't blow or stomp. Will probably let the woods set through this hot streak we're having, just couldn't let another opener go by without atleast hunting the morning.

I'm debating on whether or not I'll hunt this evening. I've had some evening movement on the cam, but I don't know how blowing up the field this morning might affect their evening movement.

Sweet! Our bow opener is Saturday, I'll be out of town til Monday so I hope to hunt Monday evening and Tuesday. That should work out since the warm spell is supposed to end Sunday with some clouds and showers.

In other news the wife and I got furloughed today so depending on the duration this could impact my season. We'll see.

Well fellas looks like we're off and running. I went out this morning and sat over a bean field, mainly because I wanted to save my new stand for afternoon because that's when been getting pics of the big boys on the farm, didn't see anything this morning. So went home about 10 and grabbed some lunch and chilled out planning my afternoon hunt. Got back into the woods around 2pm. As I walked across field kept glassing the draw I would be sitting in because there seems to be deer there through out the day. When got to edge of woods I stopped and grabbed some all season scent and put on bottom of my boots. As I gathered stuff up I looked up and saw a deer trotting off through the draw. Chalked it up as a loss and continued to stand, by time I got there and with it being around 80 degrees out I had the sweat running. Got into stand and pulled my bow up and just sat there for about 30-45 mins trying to cool off. Decided it was time to get ready so I stood up and wiped the sweat off and pulled my cover scent out of bag and started spraying down. Next went for the face paint and as I was applying that heard the sound everybody hates to hear, a deer snorting to alert everybody something is wrong. Grabhed my bow and grunt tube to maybe get whatever it was to investigate to no avail. Another snort and I noticed something out of the corner of my eye, the deer whatever it was bolting across the clover field. Again chalked that up as loss amd didn't expect more action the rest of night. This was all the first hour of the evening, sat down and was goin through things to do differently next time I sat in this stand so I didn't ruin it. Got high hopes for the spot. Around 4 pm or so I lookex up and saw a doe working her way toward me. Immediately I began to get some adrenaline goin and realized I was seated, knew I wouldn't be able to get a shot off sitting down so I slowly crept my way to a stsnding position. Honesty I kept expecting to be seen and watch her run other direction. She kept working her way toward me and I finnaly got my bow in my hand and the release on. By this time I was a mess, it happens but thats why I love bowhunting, was able to pull it together and as she started to head toward the ditch in front of me I drew back. A few more steps and I released the arrow, the hit was kinda high in shoulder but with her only being 15 yards the angle was good. Heard the twack of the hit amd she did a 180 and tumbled into the ditch. Within ten minutes the rage had did its job and she was done. Sat there for another 2.5 hours with her lying dead 15 yards in front of me. Saw two more does and a 4 point buck, none gave me a shot but this is only the first day of the season.

So that's how it went, sorry if its a little long and unable to read since I'm on my phone but this stuff really gets me pumped and I can get a little long winded. She's not all that big but if will be good to have some meat back in the freezer.
