Still a few weeks away for me. Our early antlerless season runs the 17th-20th. I plan on taking my 5 yr old daughter in a popup blind as much as I can those 4 days. I promised her I would take her while it still warm. Our main goal is for her to see some wildlife up close and personal, but it would be really fricken' cool if I put a doe down with her in the blind with me.

Well first evening of the year tonight. 3 does at 115 yards and lost my new Hooey saw and forgot my pull up rope. Saw came apart from the extensions leaving me with just the extension part. Not off to a good start

Yup 2 more weeks, nothing much on the trail cams small bucks and does. I have one out that I won't check until it's time to hang a stand. I did draw for Ripley so that will give me 2 days inside to connect with a big one. Not holding my breath but you never know.

    Take care, Sliver....

I'm heading out to help hang stands tomorrow with a buddy who's opening up a big outfitting/lease operation in some very prime whitetail habitat in Southern Illinois... He's got over 2,000 acres, 135" minimums and doesn't let a hunter sit the same stand within eight days of the last time it was hunted... Looking forward to scouting it out a bit and I'll also hunt on it some this year too.

Had a doe at 34 yrds tonite but also had one little limb in the way so no shot.
The Hooey Saw I lost cost $25 to replace . The whole damn thing only cost $34 . What a rip. BTW, I had to get it direct from Hooey instead of here.

Dang Rick... almost put up the first points for our team; that woulda been cool!

I got a quick tour of the acreage tonight my buddy is leasing for his outfitting operation... nestled right up against the Ohio River on the Illinois side... Looks a lot like what I normally hunt, but this is all private and bigger woods as well between the agriculture.

EVERY field is in beans... except for one down by the river.

I'll be away for a few days team as I've got to get up around 5 in the morning to make it to the airport to catch my flight to Gillette, WY so I can arrow a speedgoat. Unless I decide to take my laptop with me, which I just may do...

That's frickin' gay.. what exactly broke.. it just came apart?

I have used a Hoey many times.. it's been great for me.

But I'm kinda pissed that their faulty construction cost you? That's bs.. if its their problem.. they should replace it.

Good luck there on your trip Greg.
Duke, the saw has been great the few times I was able to use it before it came loose from the extension. You know how the saw snaps to the extension on those knobs or whatever you want to call them in two places for transport. Well the saw came loose from them and dropped somewhere in the woods during the walk in leaving me with just the extension part.
I talked to Andrew at Hooyman and he wants to sell me the saw only for $25 plus shipping. Hell, I only paid $34 right here for the entire thing. I've been talking to Justin about replacing the saw only but he hasn't got back to me and I suspect he is out of the office for the holiday. Andrew says he doesn't supply just the saw to it's distributors so I guess I will just buy another saw from here and screw Hooyman

    Ah.. now I understand more.

That sucks.. I wonder if it was just not locked in all the way and maybe it just got knocked in the woods while you were walking.

Which is understandable that he's gonna charge you then.. but not 25 for a saw.

It's truth be known NOT even that great of a saw.. maybe 10-12 bucks I could see.

I always made sure it was locked together because it had come apart before. Maybe a bad casting???? Anyway Justin gave me a great price on the complete saw, hope I got the order cancelled in time with Hooy. If not I will just return it.
I read somewhere, that if you put the saw in a vise and take a punch and knock every other tooth outward just a tad and it will work much better.

I know exactly what you mean about the vise trick.

I was originally told by the guys at Hoey.. they were in fact going to offset their own saws before this season even began.. but have not seen anything develop by this since.

The trouble I have is.. why didn't they just do this in the first place.

I hate it when a company comes up with anything the public wants.. then fails to make it better.

It just bothers me they didn't have this offset in their design from the get-go.. since it's elementary thinking. Everyone else does it already.. why not them?

That's exactly it. Camp Ripley is where I will be hunting. People come from everywhere to hunt that place.

Just grabbed my card from that additional 40 acres I said I gained access to. The suspense was too much I had to at least check it once and was happy to see there are a few young bucks and does with fawns using the corridor. Remeber it's a small strip of woods with beans to the north and souutheast. Swamp directly behind. No secret they will use it as long as I or someone else don't wreck it with pressure. I do have one young buck that looks to be promising but I can't say for sure I will let him walk because of the small acreage I hunt.
