Well my doe was dis-allowed as I didn't have the bow in the pic. I didn't carry the bow as we tracked her the nexr day. No big deal, I'll have another on the ground soon.

I was afraid of that, Rick.... but I understand.

I know you'll drill another one soon enough! :)

WELLLLLL, I didn't get to put a meat missile through any flesh, but my bro and I seen a nice 10 while driving it, directly across from where we would be hunting......and we jumped a doe on the way out. I went back that afternoon, but with the heat, bugs, and overgrowth...no luck. I'll take my chances when the leaves begin to fall and it's a bit cooler.

Had a 140-class perfectly symmetrical 10-pointer bedded 60 yards from me after I got my stand up and started glassing tonight.... knew I'd be moving right in on their bedroom and I took it quiet. Good thing I did.

Watched him for three hours, and he finally slipped by me using a low impression, sort of like a drainage ditch... Could see his rack and top part of his body go by at 34 yards.

    Not a bad night for day # 1. :)

    Nice Greg.

Wish I was hunting tonight. I've had a really bad case of Bronchitis thats taken me out of the woods for the past 2 weeks. Have only been out once after I arrowed that doe 3 weeks ago.:(

Should get at least 1 hunt in this weekend though.. the cold is pretty much gone.. but I've had a killer dry cough that comes and goes in spurts.. something fierce.

    I hate being sick.

Headed up tomorrow to look at some brand-new land and I'll be hunting on it as soon as I get through scouting.

Got a friend who's opening up a large-scale outfitting business in Southern Illinois, and he just acquired this land a couple weeks ago. He tells me it might be his best land he's got, and he's already got well over 2,000 acres. It's too late to put anyone on it for this year, but I've been helping him get the word out locally so he's going to let me hunt it and give him my thoughts.

He said it's typical Illinois big-buck country: lots of corn and good woods on it to boot... but best of all it's private! :)

Just got off the phone with RuttNutt, and the Daughter in Law had an opportunity at 2 book deer tonight. She had went to the gym today and did a hard workout, then went for a run. Had a big one at 25 and could not get her bow back . Had another big one at 10 and got the bow back, but hit a limb, shot over top of it :eek:. She's not happy right now.
It's the second time they sat in that stand and they have seen 4 book deer, thats counting the one RuttNutt shot out of it. Man what a honey hole.
Zeb (RuttNutt) needs to shoot 2 does befor he can get another buck tag, had his bow in the stands with them but never got it off the hook.

Greg have a safe trip and good luck scouting.

Wow, what a night for them Sliver!

I may very well drop the string on a big doe tomorrow if given the chance and I don't have a mile-long drag out... Just depends on how much of a honey-hole this place turns out to be. It's a much further drive than I have to my usual haunts so I may not care if I shoot one in it early.

Well, my outfitting buddy and I got our wires crossed; he meant NEXT Saturday... so I slipped back into my hang-on I was in Thursday night, and nada...

I'll start moving around now, playing a little cat and mouse a couple more times before I break down and I'll have to give in to the urge to drill a big doe. :)

looks like you all are getting some good hunting time in. I went this morning and saw 3 does and 5 fawns. no bucks yet but im optimistic! With school sports and work, its hard to find time to hunt but when i do get time i really enjoy it!

    good luck guys!

    John,

Sounds like a she had great night (minus not getting the bow back and the miss;)) in the stand. Hopefully she gets another chance at one of those bucks.

No doubt she will get another chance at a big one Matt, its early and she is a killer. Last season she filled her second tag in WI, while Zeb and I were in MD. They have an awesome place to hunt this season.

Chris and I went to take a look at 605 acres of public land today, and happend to pick up a real good 205 acres of private to go along with it. That will be my focus tomorrow to get a couple of stands on. I will be hunting right near the spot that dude from NY killed that 266 2/8 in 2006.
