Thanks not we big as she looks. Lots bigger than her but she gave me the shot I was looking for! I’ve got plenty of tags to fill. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Ty, I'm guessing you either didn't see what you were looking for or it was a bust...hopefully therapeutic all the same.
surprisingly well given first sit and early still in season. Had two of Highrise’s running mates come through mid morning and he just either chose a different route or wasn’t with them that day. The six is a dynamite youngin frame wise and was cool getting to see him in person up close and personal (got to nine yards at one point). quick video https://youtube.com/shorts/jY8H4rfLOyI?si=0gUfD5WBZy-zDle_ quality uploaded to YouTube is oddly bad, it may still be processing higher quality rendering
Plans were to be up a tree this afternoon....nope....son is not feeling well and momma has parent teacher conferences. Snuggles on the coach and snot clean up duty. Someday I'll wish I still had more of this four year old wanting to be comforted, not going to complain a bit.
I had one of those hunts Tuesday morning. I was shocked. Rarely do I get skunked. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yeah conditions were really good for this stand. Either the warm evening had them slow to move or the combine pushed them a little out of reach. I expected to see a couple out eating on the walk out but notta!
Ya some days are just strange! I won’t be out much for the next 12 days. We are doing a plant shut down for maintenance and I’m working a lot more than normal. Next week Sunday through Saturday I’m working 6 of those days, 12.5 hour shifts. Going to suck but 35 hours of OT next week and the 10 this week will be nice lol. My schedule gets back to normal Halloween week and I’ll be hitting it hard when I’m not working. I work no more than 3 days in a row and get 2-3 days off in between! Planning on heading up to the mountains on Saturday. Bear & deer seasons overlap, so I guess I'm chasing Be-er...? Will have the bow and a side. Meeting the son of a friend on the hunt. Forecast calls for rain tomorrow, Saturday will have wind...so I've got mixed feelings (should cover our sound/will cover game moving sounds, the mountains have thick cover, strong wind will make it extra dicey for any distance of shot with the bow)...
Hunted last night and I got skunked. I had a duck hunter come through, but I stuck it out and nothing came through. I won't be out till The middle of next week now. Good Luck everyone
My #1 and #2 are showing up non stop but not in daylight. #2 has shown up barely into shooting light but not by much. I’m really hoping to get a chance at one of these two! #1 #2 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Well I have Fridays off but rain this morning and may continue rest of day...I don't bowhunt in rain, personal choice....so we will see how tomorrow or sunday fix up.
I'm back in MN without elk but with a lot of experience. I got a bull talking, got three responses that seemed to be getting closer, so we got hidden and called a few more times without response. We waited for over an hour in that spot, but he never showed up. On the exit from day two in the dark, we bumped a couple of cows but never saw them, but they mewed at us a couple times as they crashed through the darkness. That was a close as we got to an elk. We saw 13 mule deer. A bachelor group of four bucks, the biggest was a shooter 3x3 (he was pretty tall and outside the ears) that might have been a 4x4, but I could never tell if it had brow tines. The other three were forks and spikes. All in all, it was a great trip with just a shade under 51 miles on the boots. We didn't hold back from getting deep. Everyone we talked to said the same thing... no one was seeing elk. I've got some intel on a good spot for mule deer in the future and will definitely go back for that purpose! Back to the business at hand, though. I'll get out Thursday next week to try to slay another whitetail. It appears we might be starting to see cooler temps and a possibility of snow. It's great yall found and got into them! I think the trickiest part is when to be aggressive and when to be passive...and to what degree of either... I think elk eyesight is poorer than deer, but they do pick up on movement, so when we hold up we try to get in the shadows and with back cover. One of you breaking branches (simulating raking) is a good tactic when you hear a bull pretty close...then you give em a good scream and they lose their minds...
In the tree trying to figure out where these bucks are living. I should see a lot of deer, but will it be the right one? We’ll see! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Only saw a couple squirrels and a bear cub (twice) yesterday. Not sure if I’ll sit tonight, think I’m getting sick.
Last night and this morning did not meet my expectations. Had a target buck on camera 100 yards from where I sat this morning at 6. Hopefully I didn’t spook him walking in. I got to the tree at 6:15. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
