I've been sidelined with a cold with a cough, still have this coming week before gun season starts the 22nd. Then we have a long late season for me to put down a doe.

Big day today, twin grandsons play state championship 8 man football this afternoon. Kinda a David against Goliat matchup. Town my grandsons attend is like 400 population. Private school they play has population of 15,000. They played them earlier in season and won 30-12 so hopefully my grandson's team can beat them again.

Good luck to all the team hunting!

[IMG] Almost got a shot at one of my shooters at 10 am. Came in too fast could not stop him in the lane on that side. Of course the side I did not expect deer to come through. Stoped at 10 yards behind a big pine tree fkr a moment the trotted off as fast as he came. Never knew I was there

Going to slip into a ground setup this evening i put in over a month ago. It an old shower seat that I painted with camo paint. It should put me on a good cross wind for the community scrape.

Winds were terrible here yesterday evening. Did end up seeing a total of 8 does and fawns, no antlers.

A couple does and a buck or two puts us right back in it!

Had a new slammer show up on cam today during shooting hours. Looks to be with a doe. Going to get rained out tomorrow but may try to get out Wednesday evening to hunt. Not sure how long he’ll stick around.

I ended up taking a half day of PTO on Thursday. My plan is to get a tree set up, in the afternoon, for a new spot to sit on a North wind. I'll be cutting limbs, pruning branches, and cutting down ground brush I'll likely sit the rest of the evening once I have it all set up. Perhaps I'll have some luck. Friday starts Illinois firearm season. I'm thinking I will be opting to bring my bow to the stand instead of the rifle. Its a good looking spot. With any luck we can get it done Thursday though.

Back out in the stand finally. Was trying to get out yesterday but family and work has been keeping me busy.

Neighbor shot the best buck I had on the place Sunday morning. The other two 8 points are all broke up and really need another year. Right now I don't have one that I want to hunt. Hope a new big one shows up and fills the void...

In the stand tonight. Last 3 sits have all been does coming through. Not even getting pictures of decent bucks. Moved cameras twice around scrapes ive found and all does and a couple small bucks. Youth gun i believe is this weekend then a week of gun after Thanksgiving. Might try some public after gun season if this spot doesn't get better.

Spent just shy of four hours cleaning up the new stand placement. Damn locust tree. Took a few thorns. Great stand overall. Definitely can clean it up more over time. In the saddle now. It’s firearm opener here. I have my bow though. Heard some shots off on the neighbors property.

Took my son out this weekend for youth gun. He’s hunted hard all season and it finally paid off yesterday. Saturday started with a shooter buck skirting downwind of us and blowing out. We relocated Sunday morning and he was able to take a doe. Went back to the same spot for the evening hunt and with 20 mins left made a perfect 130yd shot on a great 10 pt. Doubled up!

Got my son's buck and doe cut up and chilling until tomorrow before vac sealing. Big cold front coming in tomorrow evening. I'll be out Thursday evening through Saturday evening. Looking forward to finally getting some colder weather.
